News of Smoking Addiction

I'm only 20, but I've smoked for the past 6 years. I want to quit, and I know that physically I can. The problem is that I use smoking as a coping mechanism in times of stress/emotional distress. I have a mood and anxiety disorder, and at times when I feel miserable or hopeless taking a walk around the block and having a cigarette helps me turn my mood around. Unfortunately It's never just one. ...

A nurse told me that the way to quit smoking is to gradually cut down. An ex-smoker told me that doesn't work, that you have to quit cold turkey.
