Failing classes in school because of selective mutism?

I'm in high school and last year i failed a class because of skipping school and not doing big projects that all had presentations. I don't think it is fair that i have to retake the class even though i understand everything i just don't like these social parts of it (presenting).

This year is already off bad because i can't ask any questions in class so i start bombing tests and not understanding what ...

Please help me!

As far as I know I never had selective mutism as a child. I am 36 now and over the last 2 months have had 2 episodes of what I can best describe as selective mutism. I just cannot speak to my partner. It sounds dumb, but when he talks to me I just can't respond. I'm not mad at him about anything. He'll ask me questions and I hear myself forming the answer in ...

is there any hope for me?

Hi. I'm 20 years old girl with SM. I've had it since I was 3-4 years old. Few years ago I've started the teraphy... and I have made a BIG step forward, but now I feel totally lost in my life... I can talk to strangers, I can use my voice (for years I was completely silent, I hadn't talked to anyone). But I really CAN'T build any relationship, I don't mean finding a friend ...

What do you think about "overcome SM"?

What do you think about the Phrase "Overcome SM"? Is this a hope or a suggestive-imaginary dream?

I can't talk. Please help me, need advice

Hi everyone,

I suffer with selective mutism since as long as I can remember. I'm 18 now and also have depression but I'm starting to get help slowly but I don't know if I will ever be able to speak freely.
Anyway, what I really want to be able to do is go into shops independently and buy things, but hold up a flashcard to the person who serves me saying something like 'sorry I ...

Too anxious to speak, too anxious to run

Ok this is just a story about what happened to me in school... I was in biology class and the teacher was asking specific students questions related to the topic. I was inwardly begging him not to ask me anything, because I knew I would stumble and trip over my words as per usual. But inevitably, he asked me a question and I stood up to answer, but I was so anxious about the other ...

Survey: Did something Trigger your SM?

Hello all,
I am doing a little survey here to see if there is anything that those with SM could attribute the condition with. My niece is 7 years old and has SM and she is gradually getting worse. She would talk to family frequently up until she was 5-6 and now she wont talk to anyone except her Mom. I am just trying to research the subject because there really isnt to much concrete ...

Surviving Selective Mutism

A child with S.M (Selective Mutism) when at school is placed in an environment where they are left alone to cope with a terrifying literally debilitating condition. A child has no idea why they are mute but I can assure you that any child with S.M. certainly doesn’t want to be mute. They want to speak, and left unchecked the result is they are traumatized and left with low self esteem.

Selective Mutism is something ...

Will I ever recover?

I've been suffering from Selective Mutism for as long as I can remember, and I have no life at all because of it. I'm 28 and have never worked a day in my life, I have no friends, no girlfriend and just feel like a complete failure at life.

I miss my days as a youth, as things were a lot easier. So my question is, despite having it for a long time, do you ...
