Lack of depressive symptoms

I have been diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder for many years now and by many clinicians. My symptoms fit the dsm criteria quite nicely. However, all of the clinicians seem to note one thing as odd. I feel happy, manic or hypomanic almost all of the time. In my given estimate I am manic or at least happy about 95 percent of the time. I am here to try to learn more, has anyone else experienced ...

Diagnosis?

Today I spoke with my psychiatrist. I had previously been diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, but lately my doctor and I have been speaking of Schizoaffective as a possibility as I show symptoms of both schizophrenia and a mood disorder. Today while talking my psychiatrist brought up my diagnoses and we began to begin to write up my treatment plan. She spoke of how she is certain I am more schizoaffective than schizophrenic, and she listed schizoaffective ...

Not new to the forums but relatively new to Schizoaffective

Been ok n these forums a long time and for the longest time I thought I had Bipolar Disorder.
Well that changed a year ago. Things were so out of control that my Pdoc decided there was more to the near permanence of my psychotic symptoms.
To be clear my voices are permanent and I have had visual on and off for more than 4 years now.
I was, however, doing well. January past I ...

Really Complicated

About a year ago I was diagnosed with schizoaffective bipolar type. Looking back there were so many signs, so many, but I chose to ignore particularly when I had long periods of mania that kept me running nonstop. Not sure about any of you but I crashed to get my diagnosis. I was admitted to the psych ward for four days and it was then that the doctors began to point out my symptoms that ...

Disclosing diagnosis to boyfriend...

I've been seeing a guy for over a month and a half, and things are going really well.

He has a history of depression and anxiety, and his ex wife was a self harmer and attempted suicide - so he's no stranger to mental illness.

He knows I have a history of mental illness and that I see a psychologist, but he doesn't know the specifics of it. I am worried that if he finds ...

New Psychiatrist changing everything...

I've been living with Schizoaffective Disorder for over twenty years, about a year ago, my psychiatrist (who has since moved on) finally got me on a regime that works for both the psychosis and the depression and anxiety.

I am on Haldol for the psychosis element, Doxpin for the insomnia, Lamictal for the depression (mood stablizer) and Gabapentin for anxiety and panic attacks.

My new psychiatrist, a young woman, immediately reduced my dosage of Gabapentin ...

What they think of us here...

In Oregon they are talking about closing the Southern Oregon State Hospital in Junction City, Oregon and putting around 200 SEVERELY mentally ill people who were originally determined to sick to take care of themselves back into the community in some of the poorest counties in this state. This is bad enough but it does not appear like a great deal of increased funding for outpatient mental health care with will be forthcoming from the ...

Electro-convulsive therapy

I am getting pretty fed up with the psychotic symptoms, and also a feeling of dread (possibly depression) that I experience at night. Seriously looking into electro-convulsive therapy to maybe 're-set' my brain. People's experiences with this? Thoughts?
