Problem getting teenager to talk about feelings

I have a very frustrating problem. A little background info first:

My 16 year old daughter has always been a bit "different." She's always been painfully shy around people she doesn't know. Around family and good friends, she's fine, but around others she has a bit of a problem interacting with them socially. She has a hard time expressing opinions, or presenting school projects in front of class. It has been a problem at times ...

Parenting the Inner Child

My therapist told me that if I parent my child like I parent my inner child then I am doing her a disservice.

My father was not abusive but could explode seemingly anytime. I didn't like him very much and when he died when I was 13, home felt like a much a safer and happier place.

My mother was the exact opposite of my father. She was low discipline and very safe feeling.

Neither ...

Before We Were Conscientious

I'm not sure where this belongs. I was going to post this to ASPD, but I doubt it would be welcome. Here it might at least help parents and children connect better.

The subject is moral maturity, and the question is, does anyone remember not having a moral conscience? I'm not asking if you were a sociopath and were somehow 'cured,' but do have any childhood memories from before your conscience developed, or at least ...

Boarding school?

My 14 year old younger brother has been getting into a lot of trouble lately. He's been hanging with the wrong crowd and is being influenced by his friends to do "experimental" things, like drinking and smoking pot. Quite frankly, my parents are sick of this and are thinking of sending him off to boarding school.

However, I feel that this may be a bit extreme. I want to seek out other parents advice, and ...

Teenager with delusions

I do not understand about depression and delusions. My daughter is very depressed. She has not been diagnosed yet (psychiatrist appt May 12th) but my mother was bipolar and I recognize many symptoms.
She has told the therapist and family doctor that her stepfather "touched her inappropriately" and that he is "controlling her in her mind" She is at home because she cannot cope with school or work right now and he is at home ...

I feel so sorry for the little girl next door because

because she is the only kid in the villege who has never played on the villege park. All the other kids go there after school but her mum just brings her stright home. She is also never up there at week ends or school holidays either. I hate how my dad said that maybe if she was younger they would take her up there. It made me so angry because I've seen kids so much ...
