Externalization as a self-help tool

I have been taking a course on narrative therapy this quarter and I find that several of the tools in this modality of therapy could be useful for treating people with paraphilias and might be useful for those who do not have safe access to therapy (or feel safe). One of the first narrative techniques that seem really applicable is the idea of "externalizing" the problem.

As I have read through the posts on this ...

Re: Is it wrong if noone gets hurt?

Since then I have refused to do any massage or even be with the girls alone.

This is good to do but I do wonder why you chose this course. What is it that would cause you to go further than you have as of yet? Can you explain what action it would take to put you over the edge?

No history of abuse but obsessed with rape?

This is something I have struggled with since I was very young. I don't recall ever being sexually abused as a child, though I began to display symptoms of mental illness at the age of 6 (anxiety/panic attacks/breaking out in hives, depression, suicide threats/attempts, drawing sexually graphic/violent pictures, "rages"). I can remember when I first began masturbating (age 5-7?) and being incredibly aroused by rape scenes in films. As I grew up it became an ...

Therapy thoughts for pedophilia and other paraphilias

I have been going through as much research as I can find on what is currently most commonly used in treatment of people with pedophilia in terms of therapy philosophy and techniques. While I cannot claim to have read all of the published work out there, that I am generally seeing is a focus on aversion training and other techniques that have a goal of getting rid of the attraction.

Perhaps because the people in ...

To all Young Pedophiles

Hi I'm Anonymous112,
About 3 years ago I discovered I was a pedophile, it destroyed me, I found I could cope with it for a while until January this year I told my mum, who luckily for me took it really well and agreed to keep my secret. After that I din't talk about it much with her and last month I began getting really depressed and not long after suicidal, on the 28th of ...

The problems of justifications of adult/child sex/romance

Hello :)

I am troubled by some of the hopefully theoretical justifications that some people use to convince themselves that a sexual/romantic relationship could possibly be healthy, consensual, and positive for the child. I thought I would offer my 2 cents on the justifications I've heard and invite you to join me in a discussion about this topic. I can tell you that I find it very ...

Disordered Statistical Manual of Diagnostic Mentality

What do you think about this clip by the mental health watchdog CCHR? IMO the editing is a bit melodramatic, but the validity of the DSM and the APA's authority is nonetheless thrown into disrepute. One then has to ask whether pedophilia can still be classified as a mental disorder, considering transsexualism has since been spirited away into the rainbow. Unfortunately, even a so-called watchdog is not willing to mention that paradox.

...

Studies of Pedophiles

I am just curious if anyone knows of anyone or any college or mental insitution that is currently doing any studies that have to do with pedophilia? I would like to get involved in some and put in my two cents since I am a pedophile myself and if someone wants to understand pedophilia even more I would like to answer questions and do whatever I can to help. If anyone knows of anything or ...
