Why are therapy and medication together the best treatment?

I know this question may be obvious, but can you tell me how your experience with taking medication while seeking therapy treatment helped you? How do they work together?

In part, I'm asking this because I'm in therapy now following a nervous breakdown (panic/anxiety mostly, but depression too). I have been hesitant to take an antidepressant for fear that it'll diminish my emotions, however it's also taking a long time to recover from this breakdown ...

How do effective antidepressants affect your emotions?

I am experiencing a very difficult time -- had a nervous breakdown last June and am still recovering/stabilizing. I just decided to try out 10 mg Prozac to help me further stabilize.

My root issue that I'm dealing with in therapy is emotional suppression, and it's been helpful working through the issues. However, my BIGGEST fear is that my antidepressant is going to blunt my emotions, and numb me out.

I know this isn't true ...

Can antidepressants aid the psychotherapy process? How?

In June of last year (2017) I had a nervous breakdown and experienced crippling anxiety for months -- I believe this was due to an overwhelm of stress and living at home with parents, and unresolved deeper emotional issues and depression.

Therapy has been helping a lot, but I'm still low, lost, and disconnected in my life and relationships. I still have bouts of depression and I'm still recovering from the breakdown.

I'm debating if ...

Sexual side effects of SSRIs?

I saw a psychiatrist recently to find a solution to the sexual side effects I experience on 50mg Zoloft. She prescribed Viibryd because apparently it has a low risk of those side effects, but I looked into it when I got home and I'm reluctant to take it because of the numerous other severe side effects people have reported. I've read that adding Wellbutrin or Buspar to an SSRI can counteract sexual side effects but ...

Lexapro seems to not be working anymore

I've been on lexapro since September 2015. I started on 10mg and was upped to 15mg during 2016 and then up to 20 mg a few months later. I can't express how much this medicine has helped me. It gave me back my life. I'm 21 now and without it i wouldn't be here. Lately I've noticed my anxiety disorder is hard to manage. The physical and mental symptoms are really bothering me. My OCD ...

Can't stop yawning- PROZAC

Hello.

I was put on Prozac (10mg daily) about 8 weeks ago. I was prescribed it because of binge eating and depression/PTSD. I was told that it would aide in suppressing my appetite, and it did, by making me completely nauseous. The nausea has wavered, but I am concerned because I cannot stop yawning. No matter how much sleep I get, or what I am doing, I yawn every 5 to 10 minutes, more if ...

Weight gain

Hello, so my psychiatrist put me on sertraline 50 mg and quetiapine 200 mg and I'm worried I'll gain weight since my weight's already a problem. Is there any way to avoid weight gain?

Also, do any of you know why people gain weight using these drugs? Is it because of increased appetite or because of slowed metabolism?

And what would happen if I were to drink alcohol while on meds?

Viibryd (tw)

I currently take Viibryd 40 mg for anxiety and depression. It has been the most effective medication over the last 9 years and countless types of medications I have tried. HOWEVER, if I miss a dose or even take a dose late, I get flooded with the worst emotions ever. I am crabby. I cry. I lose all rationality in my thoughts and start to plan ways to hurt myself. Usually this is when I ...

Fiance suddenly ends relationship/family on Welbutrin

Hi,
My fiance and I have been together nearly 5 years. We were both single parents (he has a son and so do I) so we made this nice little family. Being both divorced, we got on our feet. Moved into our own place and eventually bought a house. He started Welbutrin about 2 months ago because he has anger management issues and depression. He refused SSRI's thinking this would be best. However, I didn't ...
