30+ year problem, getting better . . .

Hi, this is my first post. I'll be as brief as I can.

- I'll be 68 in August, have had sleeping problems for at least 30 years, off and on, but worse as I got older.

- Struggled with OTC pills until I finally went to doc in '04 and got a 'script for Ambien. They worked pretty well for a long time, but eventually not so much. Last couple of years I've had ...

How medication actually works

** just after some greater understanding** **not looking to be formally recommended or diagnosed** hope it is okay

Warning: lots of jargon!

Hi there,

Could you consider sedation/sleep and anti-anxiety to be on a common neurological spectrum?

I'm asking in regards to the effects of benzodiazpines, and am trying to rationalise the physiological reasons why diazepam is an anxiolytic, yet temazepam is a hypnotic.

If temazepam is shorter-lasting, does it somehow affect different neurological centres? ...

Can only sleep properly in mid-winter

Hi
I suddenly developed severe insomnia 12 years ago. It came out of the blue, I had no issues before that. I ended up on sleeping pills for 3 years, which inevitably lead to being even worse as I came off the pills. Now I take no medication but instead practice CBT and sleep restriction therapy. I never stay in bed more than 6 hours, no matter what. However, 12 years later, Im still struggling ...

Insomnia affecting work - desperate for help?

Hi! Hope you're all doing well. :)

Very recently my insomnia has been kicking off much more aggressively, and it's really affecting my performance at work. While they are fully aware of the condition and how it affects me, they can't be dealing with my poor performance, and they're considering dismissing me. I am getting more and more concerned about my finances, as I would be spending ...

Sobriety and insomnia

I can't sleep without weed. Or a downer or something. All through childhood I had terrible insomnia, and then I discovered marijuana, and suddenly I could sleep peacefully, naturally without worry. I've always had a lot of anxiety and "loud thoughts" (to put it mildly). I went through some weird almost psychotic-break-like episode a few years ago where I went off pot, became a raging alcoholic and destroyed my life. Since then I got back ...
