88 years old, lifetime absence of sleep

I know it sounds incredible but my 88 year old mother does not sleep. And it's not a condition that increased with advancing age, she has NEVER SLEPT, not unlike a fantastic story usually read in a 1930s Ripley's Believe It or Not anecdote.

When she was living with us, her mother, my maternal grandmother and I would sometimes talk about my mother not having to sleep like everyonese. The subject would come up every ...

Sleeping without pills?

I've had insomnia for quite awhile now. I've been prescribed a pretty strong drug to help me sleep, but I've run out of my prescription and my healthcard expired. I've been staying up until roughly 3-9am most nights, and when I do fall asleep I end up waking up several times throughout the "night" (even on the medication this happens). I probably won't be getting a new healthcard for at least a week, and then ...

I can't take take this anymore...

I've had insomnia off and on for about five years, and it's made my life at times a living hell. I was a fabulous sleeper my entire life, until about the age of 35, when I began waking up in the middle of the night and would toss and turn, wide awake, until morning, then wander through my day in a haze of sleep deprivation. This only happened, interestingly, in the fall and winter months, ...

Afraid I have Sporadic Fatal Insomnia

I've been sleep deprived now for 3 days. I haven't been able to become tired. My body feels tired but my mind is wide awake. I've never had trouble sleeping before now. I tried melatonin and it didn't do much at all. I was also prescribed Temazepam and that put me to sleep for only one hour. I'm having other symptoms too such as leg spasms, elevated heart rate, weakness in the legs, and loss ...

Ativan for sleep

My doctors perscribed me ativan to help with some anxiety. I found taking 1mg at night really helped me to fall asleep, and if I woke up, fall back asleep quickly, and allow me to sleep in until my alarm would go off.

In fact, I used to be that person that woke up 15 minutes before my alarm would ever go off, in anticipation. And could never go back asleep. I could never snooze ...
