Is this a bigger problem in the western world?

Noone take offence to this but having come out of a scary HPD relationship and wanting to understand more I got thinking about a few things... and I guess this would apply equally to male HPD/NPD.

My HPD at work always came across as a nice sociable girl. Shes known as a flirt but the extent to which she has slept around and manipulated guys for attention is unknown by most ppl. When Ive come ...

HPD Logic

OK, here's one for the record books.

After our big blow-up a couple of days ago, (and further discussion about it last night), my HPD bf sent me this email this morning:

"Are you willing to discuss problem ownership? In my opinion, very many, almost all the major blowups we have had are because I do something that you cannot accept, and I do a lot of things....I have no problem being the way I ...

The Cat or the Mouse?

I just had a "conversation" with my HPD. I'm left with the image of a cat playing with a mouse.

When I start to finally move away, let go, get some distance, he's like a cat placing its paw on a mouse's tail to stop it in it's tracks.

When I try desperately for closeness and reconciliation, he's like the indifferent cat tossing the mouse around, knowing that he can grab it by the tail ...

Another Temper Tantrum

My guy (HPD bf) had one holy tantrum yesterday. (I've learned to think of them as tantrums, thanks to "Emotional Vampires" book.) The hell of it is, it was all over his misunderstanding something I said.

I had made a casual remark about a product, and he immediately disputed what I said. (He is a huge know-it-all.) I calmly said that I knew that what I was saying was right, although I didn't know how ...

HPDs and sex

Hi...

I just read a very interesting book "Malignent Self-love" which happens to be one of the best books I have ever read ... in reference to personality disorders.

Wow - Wow!

According to the Author (who happens to be an HPD/NPD), men with this type of disorder don't like having sex. They only use it if and only if the 'victim' requires it in the relationship... as most relationships do anyways.

When I read ...

Would a psych or counselor tell a patient if they had HPD?

I think I might have HPD. I have gone to psychs and counselors for my anxiety and depression, and they have treated me for that. When I read the characteristics of HPD, I find that most of them apply to me...which is very scary. None of the doctors or counselors said anything about this disorder, but I feel like I might have a classic case. Would they come out and tell me something like that? ...
