I'm At My Wit's End...I Need Help

Hello everyone. I am 19 years old, getting near 20, and I have been sports betting since I had just turned 18. I have a net loss around 3000 dollars in the hole from gambling, and I am at my wit's end for how to stop this horrible addiction. I have tried everything short of GA, which I don't want to do as it is out of the way for me and also increases the ...

Another statistic?

Hi all,

I was browsing the forums and finally decided to register and post. I apologize in advance for the novel but feel like I need to type his out before I give myself a nervous breakdown.
I have been gambling for 5-6 years (I'm in my early 30's) and have gotten myself into a lot of debt due to this problem. Probably to the tune of 30k.
I've used credit cards, loans both in ...

Scratching the itch.

Hello everyone.

I'm new here and thought I'd start off by sharing my story.

4-5 years ago I began playing scratch off lottery tickets. At first it was $5-$10 here $5-$10 there, nothing to be concerned with. After a traumatic event in my life gambling became my go to and progressively got worse. I started out debt free in my early 20's and now I'm almost 30 and owe 5-6 different credit places and am ...

Blown Away (in a good way)

So, I'm closing in on 900 days w/o placing a bet and I just got paid. I knew I was doing well but I was shocked when my pay came through and can't believe that is was literally thousands of dollars more than I expected (bonuses are pretty big). Now I feel like I need to treat myself so I'm going to book a flight for somewhere warm tomorrow and fly back some late on ...

Did anyone stumble upon gambling in middle age?

In my adult like, I was never interested in gambling, until I had some really bad luck that negatively impacted my health, my energy level, my earnings and my forward progress. I became vulnerable and tempted by the "Hail Mary pass" to so-called luck, known as gambling. So from age 18 to 50, no interest in gambling. Then my personal bad luck and low energy coincided, time-wise, with the building of a new casino where ...

Always have a deterrent and taking proactive action

Hi guys,

Been thinking about the journey to becoming gamble-free and in particular how to avoid relapses recently. I realized that all the avenues of gambling in which I've either had a blocker or "deterrent" from, I've managed to stay away form.

Case in point, since I've self-excluded myself from my city's only land casino, I've stayed away for over 8 months. I've had urges (sometimes strong, especially in my early stages of recovery) but ...

Another update - a few relapses but feeling positive

Hi guys,

It's been a while since my last update (around 2 months ago), but I have still been lurking around here. So anyway around 2 months ago I had a minor relapse where I actually won around $60, it didn't feel good though since I had made it to 6 months gambling free.

Well 2 weeks ago I had my biggest relapse for ages. It wasn't the biggest financial loss compared to some of ...

Gambling is not about money.

I know i have said this before on here. But we think we are gambling because we want money.

The next time you are considering gambling, please realize, you are not doing this for money. Gambling is about wanting to escape, to feel a "high," to zone out. It is a super expensive way to put yourself into an altered state.

We are most prone to gambling when we feel ineffective and down. We are ...
