Why gambling is a really really bad idea

The fellow who wrote the article linked below is very wise.

A excerpt:
"There are many forms of legalized gambling in the United States now. In my youth, gambling was largely illegal, except for Las Vegas Casinos, and the occasional Bingo game at the Catholic Church. Since then, gambling has expanded across the country, to the point where most folks live within a 30-minute drive of one Casino or another. Government-sponsored gambling, in the form ...

Telling my boyfriend

Hi,

It's been 9 months since I posted here. I was able to go about 5-6 months without gambling and it felt fantastic. Then within the last month the bug got me again. I started gambling really small amounts because I had some extra cash this month, but then I started chasing the small losses, which led to big losses. Today I lost £470; the most I've ever lost in one day, I think. I ...

I've decided to CANCEL MY BET, it was extremely hard ...

So tonight there is an NBA game, Game 3, and I spent time reading forums, even buying picks (believe it or not), just told myself I want to get back all my losses by betting on the game ....

So I deposited around $16,000 and placed a bet on one team to win Game 3, based on the forum suggestions and based on 2 picks as well (I know paying for picks is usually worthless ...

Should go on Voluntary Exclusion Program but I can't!

Hi Everyone,

Just recently joined this forum. I recently lost $14000 over a 3 day span and it's time I do something about this. Here is one of the problems. My province has a program that allows one to exclude himself voluntarily from casinos if he wishes. I want to badly sign in to help myself but I can't! (or more likely don't want to?)

Is there a psychological reason? It really is embarassing... ...

Can Contests Replace Gambling?

I've been quite happy entering free contests rather than flushing money down the toilet
by gambling. Takes me about 20-30 minutes per day.

Are hard core gamblers able to be satisfied by contests, or do they need the constant stimulation and action of gaming? Or would they just find contests triggering? spend too many hours at it per day?

What do you think?

It really is a minute at a time.

Even more precise than a "day at a time," stopping gambling is -- each time you feel an urge, you say "not now," and you get beyond it.

Let's face it, not all moments of life can be, even when someone is in the heights of addiction, spent at a card table or in front of a slot machine.

Sometimes we have to just be. Be alive and not in the "action." The more moments ...

New Crack On The Block?

You dance with the devil once he’ll keep calling and it only took me one click to cross the line into his ballroom. Now I’m sitting $10,000 in credit card debt with a f***** mind.

For me my gambling drug of choice is daily fantasy sports. From a .25cent novice to the 21-year-old high stakes player I am today my addiction has consumed my life.

In total my gambling losses since the start of this ...

This is what it's like when you stop gambling

While I was gambling I was constantly thinking about the dream world of the compulsive gambler. I dreamed about seeing the world, fancy dinners, going and doing interesting things and buying things for myself that I really wanted. The problem was that even if I did have money, I wouldn't spend it on those things because I needed it to gamble so I could get those things "for free". So none of my dreams were ...

My gambling addiction story

Well I actually posted it on reddit. I'm most definitely a gambling addict, actually I just had a beer with my dad at a nice restaurant, and the entire time I gambled from my phone, while I talked to him (lost $15 to be exact) just as an example.

I was wondering given my gambling addiction story I posted on reddit where would I fit in on these forums?

*mod edit*

BTW if there appears ...
