Wanting to quit and Determination to quit

I'm thinking many of us tell ourselves we want to quit gambling; especially after a devastating loss when we feel despondent angry, disappointed, foolish, ashamed, or just experiencing the pain of losing the money, which is important to us, even though we threw it away it like it wasn't. However, unless we act with determination and real resolve to get help and make ourselves accountable, chances are we won't quit. We will relapse and do ...

Gambling relapse. This one has hit me the hardest.

Hey.

Been a lurker on this forum for a few years but I've only signed up this week after another relapse.

Here's a quick background story about me up to this point. I've been on and off gambling since 2006. I cannot remember my very first bet but I have very clear memories that summer of tasting the feeling of a win and the feelings of loss. Sunday evening, just past, 10 years after I ...

All gambling is about wanting an emotional lift

People with underlying or manifest depression are more likely to be attracted to gambling.

Folks can say, "I am doing this because I want to find a way to make money." But it is really about seeking a neurotransmitter boost. That is why even rich people can gamble away fortunes. Google Terrance Watanabe.

I have a friend who buys scratch tickets. She may not be conscious of the fact that she is looking for a ...

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound

Folks, each day we do not gamble is a gift. I am grateful that today I am not in a casino. I am grateful to not be inside that artificial place, cut off from nature, betting my hard-earned money, to lose, win a little, lose even more, and chase and chase. I am grateful to not be in that self-punishing merry-go-round I had been submerged in. I am grateful that my bank statements no longer ...

Coping with regret (new member)

Hi! I've been lurking on this board for awhile and have read some very inspiring posts. I've come to accept that I have a gambling addiction. I started gambling almost 20 years ago. Slots and video keno are my games of choice, and my gambling increased greatly over the past year when I started gambling online. I grew up with two gambling parents and a grandmother who gambled, therefore it was normalized for me at ...

Documenting your gambling

I spent all last evening doing two things, reading this forum and crunching numbers.

I'm a person who documents many things in my life. I feel the human brain can cause memory to be very subjective and ultimately inaccurate. I've been keeping track of my gambling for a long time.
So I went to my records and I came up with a few figures:

July 2016 - 11 visits - $725 lost
August 2016 - ...

Gambling’s hype

In the next four years, the world gambling market is expected to reach $1 trillion, up from $690 billion last year, according to Technavio, a research firm.
