Had a bad weekend with gambling even though i only lost $20

Ok. So first of all I'm 33 year old male, I'm not broke and like to invest approx 10-20% of my wage per week on the horses and sports betting predominantly on the weekend. If I have a flutter during the week it's generally a $25-$50 bet on sport or racing tops however I have lost about 80% of my weekly wage about 4 times in the last 12 months which has ran up a ...

New here? (Self-exclusion)

In the last week I've read two posts from people who are relatively early in their recovery and both mentioned that self-exclusion has helped them. I haven't placed a bet in over three years and I've been an advocate for self-exclusion since I began. I'm not 100% sure but I believe that everybody else who has had a successful recovery would tell you the same thing: Self-exclusion works!

So if you're new here and are ...

Congratulations, America: We’re the world’s biggest loser.

Americans collectively dropped $116.9 billion in casinos last year, making us the top suckers of the gambling world at a cost of an average of $420 in casino deficits per American adult, according to a study on the world’s biggest gamblers recently published by the Economist.

For that kind of money we could each have a snowboard vest from Bathing Ape and have change left over for an ...

Honesty is necessary for recovery

One of the hardest things for me to come to terms with was that, when it came to gambling, I was a loser. Of course I won every now and then, and some of the wins were substantial but overall I was a loser. I was a loser for two reasons - the first reason was that I couldn't control myself and the second reason was that everybody loses and I was no different.

I've ...

I'm out

I've been gambling for more than a little controlled entertainment for five years. My first trip to Vegas I went on a roll and won $1600 off my last $100, when I was a broke conservative player. Got a good job, girlfriend , nice house , and everything was good
Was doing Vegas 2x a year with a few decent wins but controlled. Then we started doing the local casinos once a month on average. ...

I recognize I need help

Dear all,

I have visited this forum before, mostly reading the stories of others after I myself have suffered big losses. Mostly to remind me what my gambling can lead to, but also, and I am ashamed to admit it, to proof to myself that "it's not that bad in my case, look at..."

But now I really have to face the fact that I am an addict, and I don't know how this happened ...

Need help with rehab options

I've been a compulsive gambler since I was about 14, I'm currently 23. My addiction has consumed my life and honestly I have achieved next to nothing, I've only had a job for a seven month period and have no higher education. My gambling option of choice is sports betting and poker, it pretty much always has been with the exception of when I was younger I used to bring dice to school and bet ...

My story

Sometimes it takes losing the best things in your life to realize just how big the mistakes are you’ve made and to put into perspective how easy it could have been to avoid. The decision to quit my job is not a mistake. The break up with my most recent girlfriend was not a mistake…she unfortunately was my distraction for a love lost. Today I realized that a woman I love has given up on ...

3 years

So it's been a while since I have posted, but I still read this board from time to time. I see lot's of new names and some of the familiar ones.

I realised the other day it's been pretty much 3 years since I joined this forum - 35 years young now, 32 back then when I posted my story for the first time. I wish I could say it's been 3 years without a ...
