Is she all Hype or Munching?

Since 40 years ago, I have known my mother to exaggerate her ailments. My friends and I have actually caught her in the act of pretending a limp, then being "cured" when she thought she wasn't visible, only to return to the limp again once she "reappeared". Every illness she has had, either real or undiagnosed, is magnified tenfold and told in great, gory detail to any poor slob stuck in her attendance. She has ...

possible to develop Munchausen and MSBP as older adult?

My sister and I think our father and his wife have Munchausen and MSBP. Supposedly my step-mother has stage-4 lung cancer, but has been in remission, for almost 5 years now, with the occasional spot showing up on her lung. This, in our opinion, is ridiculous enough, but glaring inconsistencies have been noted (i.e., recent claims of chemo treatment a few years back even though at the time it had been a big deal that ...

Do I have munchausens???

I am 17 years old and a childhood cancer survivor. I feel a constant need for attention about my health and I often exaggerate medical symptoms. I take excessive amounts of over the counter medication in hopes to damage my one remaining kidney or liver. I don't go to the emergency room often or have any unnecessary procedures done and there's only a few people that I exaggerate to-- I don't go around complaining about ...

I am a survivor, and I need to know I'm not alone

I have searched for years for a support board for survivors of Munchhausen by proxy, I was terribly abused by my mother and I am afraid to really go into detail until I know if I can trust you or not, but I pray that I can, I need to grow past this pain to have a life of my own, I need to be free, please can you help me? are there others who ...

Maybe Munchausen & pregnant - can you help?

I'm very concerned for my niece by marriage, that she may have Munchausen. She is 29 years old, married, and 37 weeks pregnant. In the 10 years that I have known her she has made up or induced many medical problems, made many trips to the emergency room for various symptoms, had several exploratory procedures, and in one case, came very close to an unnecessary procedure on her heart. During her pregnancy, she has reported ...

Munchausen AND Hypochondria?

Hi everyone,
When I was younger I used to jump from psychologist to psychologist trying to find someone who could help me. I felt like there was something profoundly wrong with me - that I suffered from some form of mental illness. Finally, last year, I was diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Hypochondriasis.

Like most hypochondriacs I think there is something wrong with me most of the time - although I like to think ...

Munchausens - degrees of consciousness?

I am very interested in understanding the extent to which people with this illness are aware of what they are doing. Everything I read seems to suggest that this is a deliberate deceit with the intention of getting attention. Whether this is simply lying about symptoms they do not have, or actually inducing real symptoms, they always know consciously that they are not really ill.

I am wondering if perhaps there could be a spectrum, ...

Soon to be sick.

I sit here deeply mortified, after ingesting something that should never, ever pass human lips. I am deeply ashamed of myself, but the urge to make myself sick has been coming on stronger every day. I even dream about it now. I feel nauseus, but I can't tell if it's just nerves or the stuff actually kicking in. Why do I want to be sick so badly that I'd be willing to give up my ...
