Does He Have it or Not?

I think my father is suffering from this disease but my entire family would rather pacify him and I'm pretty much at my breaking point. I'm 32 now, he's 65, and 6 weeks after my parents got married (now divorced after 20 yrs. of marriage), he had his first surgery. It's never stopped after that switching on and off between mental and physical "illness".
He was a middle child, felt unloved, was an EMT and ...

Munchhausen...

I'm new to this site - I have come here specifically for the use of this forum. THANK GOD it's here.
I have been feigning illness for about 15 years now. I have acknowledged it openly (to therapists) in the last year or so. Actually, I think I may have started earlier than what I am thinking. I remember being about 12 (I may have been younger) and being in a dance class and pretending ...

DID, FD and Munch

Hello. I am just looking for some info. I have been in recovery for D.I.D. for about 7 years. There is no question that I have it. It has been confirmed multiple times by multiple professionals.

However. I have always been uneasy trying to believe the stories told by a lot of my alters. They tell stories of ritualistic abuse that just seem so extreme as to be hard for me to believe. I'm a ...

Does anyone know what this is?

So I "faked" bipolar disorder to get out of a situation where I would've gotten a harsh sentence that might've destroyed my life, instead now I have a second chance. The psychiatrists, psychologists, and officials all diagnosed me with BP, and even prescribed me some antipsychotics, which I took for about 3 weeks, and then cold turkey stopped, while maintaining that I kept taking them to the psychiatrists.

The thing is, although I was faking ...

DPD, AvPD, and MS

Mother has DPD, AvPD and Munchausen Syndrome and she is high functioning in all of them. It appears that each PD "feed" into the others. Each are difficult to deal with in its own right, but when you appear to get a solution to an issue with one personality disorder, the other personality disorder appears and you find yourself looking for a solution to an issue that's blocking that one, and when you have an ...

There is hope for munchausins!

I know someone who suffers this and actually it sounds alot worse than it is, with all respect!
She used to hit her self in the arms and legs to get bruises (in my opinion no different to self harm) she then told me it was because her step father abused her and without marks no one would beleive her. She pretended to be sick alot of the time, used to go to e.r with ...

Just Frustrated & Seeking A Soothing Word

The good thing: my mom no longer abuses herself by taking 4-5 Xanax and Ambien a day, and getting away with it because she claims that her doctor prescribed those dosages to her.

The bad thing: she has replaced her need to get attention through medical emergency by....(drumroll please)...SMOOTHIE OVERDOSE!

My mom is allergic to the pesticides in fruits. When she started replacing her meals with fruit smoothies in order to lose weight, at first ...

Does continuing self-destructive behavior qualify?

I've had asthma all my life, and I'll also admit the reason I'd question my relationship to illness is that I did have two major figures in my life who were terminally ill -- my grandfather, who was like my father until he died just before I turned 12, and my biological father, who had HIV (and a host of other problems), was diagnosed less than a year after Grandpa died and I finally buried ...

It's been suggested I display Munchausen

I feel I live by some sort of standard, "if jews are being persecuted, then, I am a jew"
even though i'm not one, i'm a christian.

and, it gets me into trouble.
i might argue with anti-semites, and lead them to want to harass me or kill me even, you never can be too sure about these things!
and it's like i get off on it, i can't stop it even though i'm endangering ...

Does this sound like Munchausen's?

When I was a little girl I was weirdly jealous of people with chronic conditions like diabetes who probably weren't going to die from them, but at the same time always got "special treatment" and accommodations because of their illness.

Fast forward to now... I don't actually hurt myself or pretend to be sick, but I am a total hypochondriac and constantly post on health forums asking about any random symptom I may be having. ...
