What is wrong?

I feel completely numb and no longer feel like I have a purpose. I can walk straight through a crowd of people and not feel anything. I can’t feel joy anymore. Whenever I try and do something new it doesn’t feel right. Like I’m stuck in my old self and can’t move forward. Whenever I try to advance I feel like I’m doing something wrong.

Ive lost my appetite, my sleep is non existing anymore ...

Covert Narcissism might be causing dysthymia?

I've been researching covert or vulnerable narcissism for a long time now and often see it mentioned with and even connecting it to depression, anxiety, + neuroticism. What do you think?

COVERT NARCISSISM AND MENTAL HEALTH:

According to 2015 research looking at the diagnostic and clinical challenges associated with narcissism, people often seek treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions rather than narcissism itself.

People with covert narcissism may be more likely to have anxiety or ...

Question about psychiatrist not taking history into account

My depression has been ongoing since childhood. Why do doctors not take this into account? Do they just typically ignore history?

Can't remember a life without depression?

You know those questionnaires that are used to diagnose whether or not a person has depression? I never know how to answer that one question asking "have you lost interest in activities/hobbies that you used to have an interest in?" Like, uh, idk, I've always had depression. How the hell am I supposed to know that? Same thing with those articles talking about "getting back to normal" and recovering from depression, but what is "normal"? ...

Here it comes again

The sky has turned gray from sunny, and the lethargy, self-loathing, and ennui are rearing their ugly heads. I was supposed to get my hair cut, but cancelled literally last minute - I couldn't face getting up and going anywhere, plus the thought of "Why bother, you're ugly anyway" made an appearance. I've been fighting this battle ever since I was 13. The last time I approached my doctor about adjusting my medication, I was ...

There's No 'Better'

I've had a cocktail of Dysthymia dipping down into full on Major Depression with an added dose of Avoidant Personality Disorder for as long as I can remember. As I'm nearly entering my 4th decade, it's worsening to levels that are considered 'problematic'.

My wife has prodded me enough times that I've sought some sort of 'treatment', insofar as it stops her from going on about it.

Thing is, with the Meds I've been put ...

ECT?

Anyone try ECT? And if so, what were your results? I have been on numerous medications over the past ten to fifteen years, and have also been in therapy on and off all that time as well, but still struggle with dysthymia.

Anyone avoid critical family members in my case my mother but feel guilty about it? I have a good mother but she can be critical and she has a way of saying things that really have negative effects on me. However, I am 47 and ...

Blamed my mother (Guilt)

Hi, new here first post. I have dealt with depression/anxiety as long as I can remember. Period of times where things were good. Didn't last long. Only found out about dysthymia from reading my own medical records. My psychiatrist never mentioned it. So I looked it up and was long wholly crap. I have everyone of these symptoms. I am 47 now my mother is 77. This whole time I have had this low self ...
