News of Dissociative Identity Disorder Forum

From what I've read, it seems that integration is the best outcome for DID. I have found this to be true in my case, but I have visisted other DID sites and have found a fair amount of resistance to even the word "integration". I would be interested to know how others with DID feel about integration.

I have a female friend who has a male alter. The alter is adult and sexually active but has self image issues that keep him from feeling whole.

Is there anyone here who can help them with this issue? Anyone else living with an alter of the opposite sex?

I have heard where some DID people have forced integration and it has not lasted.

I cannot imagine how this can be done. I'd really appreciate if someone could explain "forced integration". I would also be interested to know what caused you to split apart again. Was it something, major, minor, unknown, or what?

I have read where over time a person can get control over alters so that you (host) can control when certain alters come out. While my young alters wouldn't come out in an adult or work situation, I have no ability to control when various adult alters come out.

Can anyone comment on their ability to control the "expression" of alters? I'd appreciate hearing from you.

My ex-husband was diagnosed with a personality disorder 25 years ago and has not been in therapy since. Although I am mainly right-handed, I do have alters that are left-handed. I can throw a ball with my left hand, swing a baseball either right or left, write with my left hand, swing a golf club left, and paint with my left and right hand.
