Unable to let go of an ex

'm reaching for your help. Sorry in advance, English isn't my first language and my post will be long!

I will give you a small (as small as I could) story of my life, because it's certainly related. I'm born from an Algerian-Canadian couple. When my parents divorced, I was 2-3 years old and my father kidnaped me from my mother and brought me to Algeria. On arrival, he was arrested and force to do ...

I think my friend is DPD

So, about a year ago, i reconnected with a friend from High School. Back in my senior year of high school and freshman year of college - we were really close (think 1980s). She is a year younger, so when i went to college she was a senior in HS. We used to write letters to each other - every other week. She would send me 15 page letters. Back in those days, i was ...

Is my girlfriend DPD?

My girlfriend has always struggled with abandonment issues. I know it's not BPD because she only meets 3 of the criteria for it.

I think she's dependent because of how she can't be alone. She has panic attacks whenever I don't respond to her or if I have to be away from her, even for a short amount of time, and seeks out the company (not romantic) of others when I am gone. She threatens ...

Amazing blog on DPD

Hi, i'm a sufferer of DPD and there is an amazing blog i want to link you all to. There's a few posts on DPD they've written which are all spot on, are so sympathetic and understanding and are really well-written and factual. I found it really comforting as it made me understand so many behaviours i do.

http://psychnerd101.blogspot.co.uk/ - there's a section on DPD

Would this be a dependent's thought process?

I've been studying personality disorders and I want to ask people with DPD and friends/family of people with DPD if the following paragraph accurately explains their state of mind:

"I'm too weak and inept to do things alone, I desperately need someone else to help me with them. I don't like to feel alone or abandoned. I am quite co-operative with others, and I am neither ambitious nor immodest. I am far less accomplished than ...

obsessive texting

In the past I usually would text many times if I didn't hear from a bf. But this last relationship the only time I texted obsessively was after the breakup and the last week the day we got in an argument. Is this normal in people with DPD? I know it is for borderline. What can help? I ordered DBT therapy book.

advice please

I realized I have some characteristics of DPD. It is always hard for me to let go of relationships, and make decisions, and I used to be clingy in relationships. My parents were very overprotective growing up. This last relationship I was not as clingy until after the breakup. I was dating a guy who has OCD. We only dated for 3 months. Only French kissed once or twice. Rest of the kisses are short. ...

Dependent on teachers, therapists... Anyone else?

Dear those with DPD,

I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder back in August and Dependent Personality Disorder this March. I was in an outpatient Dialectical Behavior Therapy program where I also get individual therapy. I have made improvements in many areas except for one, attachments to people.

I get unhealthily attached to teachers, professors, coaches, supervisors, some families I babysit, and most recently my therapists. I am not attached to significant others like most ...

My DPS is killing me

After a really bad break up with who I thought I would spend the rest of my life with I developed DPS. Right after that relationship I started abusing drugs and desperately trying to find someone to fill the emptiness I felt. Then I started dating my now boyfriend. He cheated on me the first month. I forgave him since I was so afraid of being alone and I wanted to stop hurting. I depend ...
