Can therapists do more damage?

I am wondering whether a therapist who hasn't healed their own schemas can potentially damage a BPD patient... I suspect this happens more often than not, but it is the patient who is blamed.

Here is an excerpt from Schema Therapy: A Practitioner's Guide:

"Mental health professionals tend to have a negative view of patients with
BPD, and to speak about them in pejorative terms. Professionals often regard
these patients as manipulative, selfish people. This ...

New Friend......old habits?

Hey there,

Ok......so i've got a new friend. I met her on a different BPD site.......and we've been emailing eachother for the last month.

Pretty much everyday......and most of the emails, are pretty long. And they're all really open.

I really actually didn't want this to happen? Or maybe i did? I don't know.

I didn't expect to get along with anyone aswell as i seem to get along with her.

And i'm really aware, ...

Is the empty feeling of BPD in all of you?

Some people listed the empty feeling asthe worst part of BPD for them and emptiness is listed as one of the symptoms of BPD in the literature on BPD. My B PD said she also experiences this when alone, so I asked her if that drove her to seek out other people partly to avoid that empty feeling when alone and she said yes,but she is not very good at identifying her motives so Im ...

Being in relationship with wrong person to avoid loneliness

I am not very good at relationships. I just broke up with my recent boyfriend this weekend because we were not compatible and both of us had emotional problems. When I first started the relationship I knew we weren't quite right for each other but persisted with it anyway because I was tired of being alone. I know ending the relationship was the right thing to do, but the feelings of intense loneliness are back, ...

Can DBT succeed in causing a person to stop drinking?

My BPD friend is the most hard core, incorrigle alcoholic perhaps in human history. All day, every day, all her life, in spite of every rehab program, threats of jail sentences, DUI's, car crashes, threats of eviction and losing her Federal housing subsidy, high liver enzymes and now she fears she will soon get cirrosis, absolutely nothing stops her from drinking, even though the alcohol makes every BPD symptom and result so much worse, on the ...

INVALIDATION IS ONE CAUSE OF BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER
BY
BRUCE W. GLADSTONE, PH.D

".................These patterns of instability or dysregulation (in people with BPD) are believed to be learned at an early age in families where a child’s private experiences (feelings, perceptions, opinions) are frequently met with inconsistent, inappropriate, or extreme
reactions. These reactions, in effect, invalidate the child’s private experience. This is especially true for the child’s
experience of ...

BPD poetry

Broken, worthless and empty,
Ones own worst enemy.
Regrets past mistakes,
Doesn't learn from those mistakes.
Emotions run riot allover the place,
Really wants to be in another time and space.
Living but on the inside I'm dead,
I wish I felt something else instead.
Noone really cares,
Everyone stops and stares.
Promiscuous and risky,
Escape with a bottle of whiskey.
Rageful warrior,
Self destroyer.
Overdoses at the ready,
Nervous and unsteady.
Anxiety reaches fever ...

Oxytocin and depression?

I've been trying to look things up on it, but it's still a rather new concept. I just have been wondering if oxytocin doesn't cause the same response in me as in "normal" people. There is some information to suggest because of my personality, the release of oxytocin causes the same response that happens in situations of social separation.

An example of it not working normally is that I get really melancholy or depressed sometimes ...

raging warrior to the self destroyer. acting in/ acting out

So BPDs act in or act out and some do both. I alternate between the two. When I loose the plot I can scare grown men I completely loose control the volcano just errupts. Ppl av told me I am very intimidating aggressive and I see them shaking. The raging warrior really scares me and I almost always regret it afterwards once I have calmed down. Yet at the time I seem to av no ...
