Shocking coincidence?

When I was growing up my mum used to use this quote to describe me:

"When she was good she was very good indeed, when she was bad she was horrid"

Over and over, it's one of the only things I can remember about my childhood involving my mum.

So I was shocked and a little taken aback to turn to the opening paragraph of a book explaining bpd and find that very quote.

So nervous about my first counselling session

Morning all!

I'm feeling very anxious/ scared as I'm going along to meet and be assessed by a counsellor/ psychologist (not sure which she would prefer me to call her) this afternoon.

Before beginning my journey of self discovery I honestly thought I was a very emotionally open person, I have discovered that I'm the complete opposite! I'm terrified at the thought of all the questions she may ask. But am going to go along ...

Paranoia and relationships

Hi, I'm new. Lately I've been very depressed, my boyfriend of 4 years has been distant and won't talk to me, neither does he want to see me. This sends me into a state of paranoia and self doubt. I am constantly comparing myself to others, and picturing the worst outcome. I recently started DBT, but so far I'm not aware of enough coping techniques to get through this. I'm in a lot of panic, ...

Splitting people because of their political beliefs

I have been having this problem lately. Maybe it's because I'm from the U.S. (which is kind of a misnomer right now) and the election is coming up. But when I find out people are of a political leaning that would greatly affect my well being (like getting rid of certain programs that have helped me, don't think everyone should have access to health care or want to get rid of social security benefits, I ...

Comparing myself to others

I'm not feeling well today; I'm depressed. And when I feel this way I can do a number of things, one of which is comparing myself to others: I think I'm not as successful as other people.

I am comparing myself today to a woman who my ex (a sort of ex) may have respected due to her success, some of which I don't have. I'm afraid he liked her "more than" me.

I can't ...

Gender differences?

Do you believe the course and expression of symptoms of BPD are influenced at all by the gender of the patient? Every time I read books about BPD they always say men express the illness differently than women and as a result men are underdiagnosed. But a lot of research books I read online say men and women with BPD have much more similarities than differences.

Are there differences in BPD affected by gender? And ...

a new movie that really helped me connect

This is my first post, so I thought I'd maybe recommend some things that help me lately. I was just diagnosed borderline, among other things. I watched the movie "Greenberg" recently, I didn't know what it was about at first but found myself connecting and understanding his actions in it. Ben Stiller plays an adult in the film, just got out of a mental hospital and in my opinion, shows a lot of BPD signs. ...

Who am I?

I'm in my twenties and I really don't know who I am. I can list maybe 3 things about myself that don't change. I'm really struggling. I feel like a lost child. I feel like I'm 4 again right now. Nobody gets it. I'm afraid of everything.
