Is it Body dysmorphia if you are worried about real flaws?

Is this body dysmorphia or just being realistic about your appearance? I noticed I do some of the things listed as signs of BDD to hide my ugly features, however these are not imagined flaws so does that classify it as BDD or not? I guess what I am asking is if it is an actual flaw/ugliness does it still count as BDD?

I actually have never told anyone this because I am afraid of ...

New here, college age girl

Hey guys, I'm new here. You can call me Liz. Here's my backstory:

When I started high school, I became anorexic. I no longer am, but that heightened awareness has stayed with me. Even worse, I used anorexia constructively. That is, I lost some weight, people complimented me on it, I never went overboard (stopped at 105) and I am more attractive now because of it.

The problem is, I don't like my face. I ...

Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Actual Body Defects

Hey
I was wondering whether someone can have BDD but also have the body defects, and not be exagerrating the severity of it?

I'm 18, male to give a background to the situation...
I have concerns about two things - I believe I may have a mild form of gynecomastia (man boobs caused by hormonal imbalance), to the point where I will not take my top off and dread going to the beach and pool. ...

BDD and success with girls (two stories)

Alright, I just joined, and made an introductory post, so I will not get into too many details about myself and body image issues here. I just want to talk about my links between my success with girls and BDD.

I am at a new college, and while I have not had much success with girls in the past, I am trying to change that. I realize I must fail before I can succeed, so ...

New here....but not new to BDD

Hi everyone, I am new here. I am a 20 year old college student, and I have struggled with body image for a long time.

I guess I could say that it started in high school, when everyone started dating and trying to get with girls and all that. I was very very shy, and very self conscious. I barely even interacted with girls for my whole tenure there, to the point where my friends ...

bdd surgery and my ill addition to existance

I wasn't even aware off BDD until about maybe a year ago. But I definitely had it growing up. To me it was just an I dont like the way my nose looks from the side and it made me feel self-conscious and abnormal. I was shy by nature, quiet and introverted, with low self-esteem. I think i was always a sad if not depressed girl other reasons applied to that too, or maybe my ...

New, in therapy and struggling with friendships.

Hi,

I am Puss* (*names changed to protect the not so innocent). I am 30 years old, I am a mother of 2 small girls and I am a photographer.

I have suffered from BDD for years (prob started 15 - 20 years ago) and I am currently in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for it, week 4 of 8 sessions. My BDD isn't related to any particular feature but just generally my whole image. I feel ...

BDD and edge detection.

I have a friend who is basically a genius at Science. He has for a long time having observed my symptoms believed that people with BDD have a problem with edge detection. That would explain why we see ourselves so differently in different mirrors/photos as such factors as lighting would affect edge detection. I have often remarked that sometimes if the lighting is really good in a photo or mirror I can on occassions quite ...

I don't know what I look like

Is this a symptom of BDD or some other disorder? I know I'm not good looking, I just can't seem to figure out what I look like. I take pictures of myself and they all look different to me. I look different in every mirror and lighting.

Does anyone know what this is???

Thanks for the help.
