I'm filing for ssdi. I remembered that I had the dx. a long while back of AVpd, but I now see my dx was also Dependent Personality Disordered too. But I'm thinking,, 1 OMG I have two? I didn't remember that. and 2. If one is avoidant, but also dependent, don't those literally contradict one another? How can I be BOTH, they seem so opposite? Is it possible to have avoidant personality disorder and ADD or does one cause the other. I have pretty much every sympton of both, I don't have ADHD since I'm not hyperactive but I do have the symptoms of ADD. I have my first appointment with a family Dr coming up and would like to know what to expect and if they will be able to do anything.

There come times where I do not wish to speak to anyone at all, it usually lasts for one or two months, and returns again after one or two months. I remove myself from everyone, and I hate it when people worry about me.

I was wondering how many of you grew up with abusive parents, that may have caused the development of your AvPD.

For me, my parents (IMO) were partly responsible for it. My AvPD developed as a result of enduring mass peer rejection and trauma (bullying and teasing) by other kids. My mother particularly was also to blame (and still is).

It seems to just be bad luck but it makes you kind of feel like a leper! When there's no clear reason for it etc.
