Does She Have Autism or Just Hearing Difficulties?

I need assistance on determining if my daughter falls onto the Autistic Spectrum or if she is a normal child who is behind cognitively due to hearing difficulties as a child.

My daughter Lily is 3 1/2 years old. She had seven hearing infections from about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 years. Her mother and I switched doctors after we learned Lily should have had tubes put in much earlier.

The tubes were put in, ...

My autistic sister is self-harming. Help me please.

I'm posting this in the self-harm forum as well, but I feel like people who are more familiar with autism could help tailor a response to my needs better.

Today my mom walked in on my 18 year old sister cutting herself. She claimed it was our dogs scratching her, but when my mom looked her in the eye and told her "You are lying to me." She broke down. She claims she has been ...

Concerned parents

I am concerned about my nearly 4 year old son. He often times laughs when others are crying. He also repeats words or sentences over and over until we acknowledge him by repeating what he says, acknowledging him in other ways is not enough. Lately he has been saying "cake" all the time. If I make him mad by telling him no he says cake, if I say I love you he says cake. I ...

Help regarding medication

Hi!
I am working with a 25- year old autistic girl. For the past few years she is very unquiet. She can be smiling one minute- and then suddenly start to scream. She does not talk and her abilty to communicate is very low, so she has no way of explaining anything to us.
She is currently taking Risperidal 3mg and Tegretol (Carbamazepine) 400mg.
They don't seem to help. They make her drowsy for 3-4 ...

Would a therapist tell you if they suspected autism?

I have recently been researching autism and there are a few traits that I meet. No one has ever said it to my face, but last summer a new friend hinted the possibility to me. However, I have been through emotional and physical abuse from my mother, which may have effected me and give me these "traits" I have today. In a nutshell she was a violent bi-polar alcoholic and drug addict, and I learned ...

Autistic boy ensnared in VA foster care system

I am writing a book about my autistic nephew's nightmare in Virginia's foster care system. I'm not sure when I will finish or if anyone will publish it, but I'm convinced that it's an incredible story that deserves to be told.

I tend to be verbose, so I thought it would be an interesting and useful challenge to summarize my nephew's story with Twitter. If nothing else, it will force me to write something concise. ...

Sensory Integration info? advice?

Hi,
Okay, so since my youngest one had ear tubes put in, we now know she can hear,(plus she had a hearing test), but since draining all that fluid out, an old problem reemerged with a vengence.

In the car, as soon as it goes into motion, she will slump down in her seat, grab either arm rest, start gasping, choking, huffing, turns beet red, arch her back, she'll make a face as what DH ...

Need some help? please

I have done a few of these online tests for autism/ aspergers over the last few years after my mums friend who is a special needs teacher said I show signs of having it. And the scores have always been really high and I never went to get it diagnosed because it wasn't effecting me at the time. But recently I've noticed it getting worse and worse, its effecting my relationship because they think I'm ...
