I would be a very high functioning autistic person if I had it but I'm honestly starting to wonder if I do. Another explanation would be I grew up as a really awkward kid and I just need to suck it up and function normally. I know my parents thought I might be when I ...

Common sense and HFA

I know someone with HFA, who it took a long time for them to understand social skills. for some reason he doesn't understand humor and ttys to hard to be funny, also he has no common sense. my cousin also suffers from Aspergers syndrome and is the same way. Is this common to the autism spectrum and if so could someone explain why those 2 things are to me.

Was I misdiagnosed?

I was diagnosed with high functioning autism when I was four years old. I am now seventeen. I do have problems relating to my peers, but I have even more problems relating to other autistic people. I get along best with people in their 20s who are NT, but quirky.

When I get along well with people I become a totally different person. It seems like I suddenly gain social skills and I become extroverted. ...

Help Understanding

My 19 year old stepson is autistic, and I have been married to his mother for 3 years. Perhaps someone can help me to understand better whether some of these things truly are related to ASD?

For example, he seems to not ...

Lessons learned from "sensory rooms"

I just searched "sensory room" on youtube, and here are the first three videos I have found:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlMjpeTz3MY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A713PMWnyOE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRz-uQjvlKA

Other search results are equally amaizing, but this gives you the picture.

Now, the first thought that crosses my mind is this: wouldn't these rooms be enjoyable to ALL children, not just autistic ones? After all, "normal" ...

Autism Insurance Coverage

My autistic son is in a special class/therapy session, and thankfully our insurance covers it! This next year I'm planning on signing up on a health insurance exchange, but am worried that his classes won't be covered anymore, or any of his other appointments. Does anyone know what the actual rule is on this?
