I spoke with my psychiatrist about Asperger's yesterday

and she said she only had two patients who were diagnosed with it, both who she did not diagnose, and she would need to research it more since she wasn't experienced with it before diagnosing me or not. My next session with her is in about 6 weeks. I'm not so much looking for support in an informal diagnosis or support in my self diagnosis here as I am wanting to share my symptoms here, ...

Naive/childish

I would like to ask if it is common that a grown man with AS behaves in a very naive, or even childish way? The person I think about has a way to behave that more reminds of a boy than of a man sometimes. However this man is intelligent and he has a degree from university, a job, lives on his own and appears to be normal most of the time. But this childish ...

Why is it so hard for others to understand???

I’m a very recent self-diagnosed Asperger Syndrome sufferer. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for quite a few years, but all I ended up being treated for was depression stemming from the very low view on life after struggling with constant distress with sounds, touch and smell. Finally, after all these years, my Psychiatrist recommended that I see a behavioral therapist to help learn how to cope with all these things bombarding me from every ...

Explaining asperger's to someone who has it

Our son Nick is 13. He was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was about 5. My wife and I both knew he was different, but no one would listen until he started going to school. Anyway, he is 13 now, and while I'm sure he's always known he was different, he's starting to ask questions about Asperger's, what it is, and what it is that makes him unique.

I'm not sure how to explain it ...

Actor with AS--How embarrasing can you get?

Trent: I can't stand to admit this. But here it goes. I am an...aspiring...actor....who has a syndrome...that ihinders emotional intuition. There. Laugh all you want, you "Aspie" cynics, you Neuro-typical high school kids. Laugh at me so you can slightly increase your low than the gross national debt self-esteem. I know a lot of people with AS are not cynics. I am such an embarrassment; that's what I imagine a lot of "Aspies" along with ...

Asperger's Syndrome and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Hello. I was just wondering if there was any connection between Autism Spectrum and MBTI types (E/I, N/S, F/T, and J/P).

I have asperger's and I'm doing a survey of people who also have autism spectrum conditions and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in participating. If you do not know your MBTI type, here is a webside with a test: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp You could also try similarminds.com. ...

AS and clothes shopping

Ok, this is a bit of a strange post, so I apologise in advance. How do most aspies react when clothes shopping? I have a teenage daughter who I think may have AS, and I was wondering if her behaviour whilst out shopping was part of AS or just her being a teenager.

Let me explain. To put it bluntly, clothes shopping is a NIGHTMARE! (For both of us) I struggle to get her to ...

AS-Experience

Hiding under a spiral stair case in the green room of the little theatre, I just sat there. I held my head while it throbbed from the overload of negative information its cognition was taking in...the basketball players who smirked mockingly at my big-boned yet scrawny figure, the student council/cheerleader girls who looked over their shoulders in my direction, and whisper a rumor about me--something about me being a pedophile, or starting a hate group ...
