Dear forum members...

My name is Yan Leykin; I'm a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania. I study psychology and specialize in clinical psychology. I am hoping that you could help me.

As you certainly know, for many people struggling with depression, anxiety and related issues, decision-making may be a challenge. Given that we make numerous decisions every day, this aspect of emotional problems deserves to be investigated. Unfortunately, not much is known so far.

I have ...

Parents don't understand

Hi everyone, apologies for slightly long post.

I'm the only person in my family with any kind of disorder of this nature. I've had anxiety and 'pure O' OCD for as long as I can remember, but have only been diagnosed fairly recently.

The thing is, my parents (living with them for this uni year) have no idea what I'm going through, and why should they - they've never experienced it.
They can really upset ...

numbing sensations

Hi Amy,

A coupe of times I had what I described a my whole body swelling. I think the doctors took that to mean numbness. I'm not sure. Numbing can be a dissociative symptom. After I described my sensations to my shrink, he said it was dissassociative. I asked him if that meant things were so bad, that I didn't want to be myself any more. So I'm sure anxiety can cause that and cause ...

Just found out husband has OCD

It explains a lot, (why he washes his hands so much), is afraid of germs, and gets angry at times (never know when it will happen). When I realized what was causing his behavior, (after 6 years of not knowing when he would be upset), I spoke with him about it. He was willing to take a homeopathic, and has just started. He doesn't seem willing yet to see a therapist, or take stronger medication. ...

How do you know when something is wrong?

I made a post not too long ago titled "Headaches?" which got one reply. Basically I have these headaches that feel as if I got poked by a sharp object, seemingly any place on my head. The most common locations are in or around the ears, the sides, in or around the eyes, and the scalp or around the scalp. They are brief and last for a few seconds at the most. I can remember ...

I cannot figure out what to say fast enough

S.A.D. is very difficult to deal with. Many times I cannot figure out what to say fast enough and then the conversation moves to a different subject. I have a very hard time talking about subjects for a long period of time. And people think I am quiet and shy. I think its an issue of the chicken or the egg thing. I cannot figure out what to say fast enough, which causes me to ...
