Can Brain Scans See Depression? - New York Times (10/18/05)

Found this link on another board and thought it was good enough to share here. Good article in the NY Times from 10/18/05 on how there is no proof that the overly promoted brain scans used to prove diagnoses work at all. Finally a reputable and widely read paper saying it like it is! I have complete faith that we will see more and more information like this coming to light...including the myths behind medication ...

I've got more ill, when I have had professional help

But I know people that have got much better, I guess we are all individuals and need to find what works for us ourselves.

Want to Share Your Experience?

I am not sure if I will get in trouble for posting this, but haven't seen anything against it. If I am wrong I am so sorry and am not really looking to get in trouble or cause problems. So, just let me know and I will remove it...but I have met another psych survivor on another board and we have been talking about gathering all of our stories in one place to have more ...

Glossary of terms

AWARENESS-ENHANCED
A word avoided by those who prefer to use such hackneyed, unimaginative, and derogatory terms as "crazy," "lunatic," or "disordered"-- the latter being a particular favorite of MHPs, who are arguably the most unimaginative people on earth.

BIOLENCE
Violence inflicted on the mind and body in the interest of psychiatric "treatment." It usually occurs in the wake of force. (See FORCE)

C/S/X
Consumer/Survivor/Ex-Patient; a progressive term, in that one begins with the illusion of ...

Crazy guy on a bus

Now I know that mental illness exists cause i seen that guy on the bus with scrambled nonsense he was talking, changing seats every five minutes, and being menacing. It struck me that this guy was way past a cure and could only ever be contained. Hopefully!

But I'm here to talk about me. I've had problems all my life, since losing my parents when I was 4. I never got over it even though ...

UK phasing out antidepressants for youth

Greetings,
I don't know how many of you if any have visited the site http://www.drugawareness.org/home.html founded by Dr. Ann Blake Tracy, but it is an awesome one dedicated to the mission of antidepressant awareness. This just came through as an update email they send out periodically. Also, check out the site to see a great parody on a recent Zoloft ad campaign and photos of an awareness rally held ...

Can there be Peace?

I know that I am new to this site and forum, but was so excited to find a place to discuss and find new information from others who have had similar experiences with the mental health profession and am feeling a bit confused after reading the controversy on some of the threads. I realize that these forums must be moderated, but it seems like the moderator should be someone who can be objective. Sometimes it ...

To my holy opinion...

To my holy opinion  therapists should not give names to psychological diseases/disorders.

By giving names to people's problems, you put them in a category, which is bad.

Instead, just talk to the patient and try to help him/her without giving a name to his/her problems and running tests on the patient to prove the problem and to give a diagnosis.

Why prove a problem you ...

Mental Health Medication Awareness

I am so happy to find this forum topic here. As a survivor of the overuse and misuse of mental health medications through improper diagnosis (over and over again) and inadequate monitoring and/or initial evaluation I must admit that I am on some sort of 'mission' to expose that these medications are NOT 'miracle cures' and actually can cause serious and traumatic side effects, something you are NOT told about by the doctor(s). Maybe they ...
