Found this link on another board and thought it was good enough to share here. Good article in the NY Times from 10/18/05 on how there is no proof that the overly promoted brain scans used to prove diagnoses work at all. Finally a reputable and widely read paper saying it like it is! I have complete faith that we will see more and more information like this coming to light...including the myths behind medication ...

But I know people that have got much better, I guess we are all individuals and need to find what works for us ourselves.

I am not sure if I will get in trouble for posting this, but haven't seen anything against it. If I am wrong I am so sorry and am not really looking to get in trouble or cause problems. To my holy opinion :roll: therapists should not give names to psychological diseases/disorders.

By giving names to people's problems, you put them in a category, which is bad.

Instead, just talk to the patient and try to help him/her without giving a name to his/her problems and running tests on the patient to prove the problem and to give a diagnosis.

I am so happy to find this forum topic here. As a survivor of the overuse and misuse of mental health medications through improper diagnosis (over and over again) and inadequate monitoring and/or initial evaluation I must admit that I am on some sort of 'mission' to expose that these medications are NOT 'miracle cures' and actually can cause serious and traumatic side effects, something you are NOT told about by the doctor(s).
