Meeting Question

I have right under a couple of years sober. It is amazing. After several attempts to get sober and continuing to relapse, this is by far the longest amount of time I have. I have a sponsor, have worked the Steps, a Home Group I love and stay very active in my HG and in my meetings. I love AA.

A few months ago, I met a newcomer. I am considerably older than her. I ...

Ways to cut down on drinking without going to a Dr.

Hi,

I am a 39 year old male. I am 6'4" 300 lbs so you have an idea of the alcohol I can drink. I'm actually a psychology student. After working for 20 years, I decided to go back to college in 2013. I am about 70 credits shy of a BS in Psychology. Anyway, I recognize that I am on the verge of having a serious drinking problem and I would like to cut ...

Stopping drinking

I have decided it's time to stop drinking. I don't know that I want to because alcohol has been a friend to me since I 14. I have been drunk almost every night for almost a decade. I recently failed my university exams (I'm a mature student) having passed all the assignments because of it. I am in debt because of it. I don't eat properly because of it. And I even found myself smoking ...

Need ideas and advice please!!!!!

I'm new here and had a problem as long as I can remember. I always thought I didn't have a problem because I don't drink In the day. I'm a mental health nurse and I hold down my job but when I get home it's thinking about drinking. If I do drink I feel guilty and if I don't I'm just looking to tomorrow when I can . Last night had over 2 bottles of ...

AA vs. LifeRing

I'm in an intensive outpatient program that requires complete abstinence from alcohol and non-medically indicated drugs. It's brought my alcohol problem to light. I'm on day 6 of sobriety and being very heavily pushed into AA by the program therapists. I've been reading the Big Book, the LifeRing book (Empowering Your Sober Self) and reading this forum and the LifeRing forum. I've been to one AA meeting and hated it. They keep telling me I ...

People do not feel the alcohol in the same way. I feal bad

Ok, I am sorry for this post, may be it is irrelevant. Delete it in any inappropriate case.
Up to my experience, there are different types of drinking the alcohol.
I, personally, noticed maybe four.
The order is of not a significance, but I start with mine, which torments me most.
(I will use “he” for convenience, but it could be easily replaced by “she” .)
1. He drinks. In some time it gets good. ...

Dad back to alcohol (venting)

Hello, I'm a new user and I have a new problem.

My father (in his late sixties), after quitting drinking for about twelve years, few days ago decided to start again.
He is not a happy person, he tends to be pessimistic and negative, as the whole family does.
He's depressed, he always has been. As soon as he quitted drinking, he was put on medications. He never really wanted to stop drinking, he always ...

What AA means by the term insanity

AA is not using the term to refer to what alcoholics did while drinking. The term is used to refer to the insanity that occurs before picking up the first drink. The best description I have seen of the insanity that accompanies any drug is on page 24 of Alcoholics Anonymous text:
The fact is that most alcoholics, for reasons yet
obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so-
called will power ...

Acting Strange When I Drink

So I probably drink alcohol maybe once or twice a week if that. I'm very physically active as I work out 4-5 times a week. Lately IF I drink a lot (more than 7 drinks) I begin to have false memories of things that have just happened. It begins with me being knowledgeable about what I'm talking to someone about but then my mind subconsciously concocts some crazy addition to the story. They tend to be ...
