What most Americans don't know about Schizophrenia.

"Most Americans are unaware that the World Health Organization (WHO) has repeatedly found that long-term schizophrenia outcomes are much worse in the USA and other developed countries than in poor ones such as India and Nigeria, where relatively few patients are on anti-psychotic medications. In undeveloped countries, nearly two-thirds of schizophrenia patients are doing fairly well five years after initial diagnosis; about 40% have basically recovered. But in the USA and other developed countries, most ...

schizoaffective...it's not making sense!

All the books i have and everything i read about schizophrenia, it always mentions somewhere along, that schizophrenia is not schizoaffective disorder. I have the book "surviving schizophrenia" There is only one, little, 2-page chapter in all the 500 pages about schizoaffective disorder. This irritates me....the two are so similar. Actually, schizophrenia IS schizoaffective disorder...or so it seems. But schizoaffective disorder is not schizophrenia (it's like that whole "a rectangle is a square, but a ...

Losing my mind

After my third episode, I have been degrading slowly, and the medication does not help against interjected thoughts and delusions. I believe that I am being tracked down and abducted by aliens, especially during periods that I am not on my meds. I had really bad blackouts and hallucinations the last time i was in the hospital. The pills dont work very well. I still have freeform (colors, spots, lines, and images moving or undulating) ...

The origins of schizophrenia

In 1976 Julian Jaynes proposed in his book The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind that man had no consciousness until 1000 BC.2 According to the Jaynes' hypothesis, between 10 000 and 1000 BC the bicameral mind operated in humans. The left hemisphere was the site for speech, and the right hemisphere was the site for hallucinations that expressed voices and commands of gods and demons. Hallucinations were a normal phenomenon. ...

Specialists in AvPD?

Has anyone ever heard of any professionals that specialize (or know anything about AvPD)? I would like a diagnosis, but despite all my research I can't find anyone.

Also, has anyone been "offically" diagnosed by a professional as having AvPD? I don't know what to do/say in order to convince my doctor that this is real and is a HUGE problem in my life.
