Mom still does not know

Postby shannono » Mon Sep 24, 2012 10:31 pm

that my dad has NPD. they have been married for almost 40 years. She knows my sister is BPD/BP and that I a OCPD among other things. Why doesn't she google personality disorders, I have gone as far as telling her my father has a serious mental illness, but she doesn't seem to wonder what is wrong with him. She is exceptionally loving and caring and maternal. So she assumes other people also feel the love she feels. She cannot imagine anyone having ulterior motives. I am not going to tell her, because I would never want to burst the bubble she lives in. But it bothers me that she can't figure it out.

Did any of you have to TELL your parent about their spouses NPD?

Not a parent's spouse, but my father!
That didn't go over so well.
I told him that I thought he was depressed, had OCD, NPD. It's so obvious.
I told him so maybe he would get help. He seems so unhappy. I knew it was a long shot.
(okay, maybe I wanted to piss him off a little)
But, he's too deep in denial to admit any problems.
He can live in his own hell.
I'm not part of it anymore.

That sounds very difficult. Good for you for being strong enough to leave. I will never have the courage to tell my dad. Good luck Xx
