Utterly useless talent

Postby Kimera » Mon May 07, 2018 1:06 pm

Just a little bit of fun on a Monday morning....

What talent(s) do you have that set you apart from the crowd, but no one would ever pay you for?

I don't want to hear about your skill between the sheets - we already know you're a legend.

I have an uncanny memory for song lyrics. I can recall perfectly the lyrics to a song I haven't heard in 15 years (but I can't remember my best friend's birthday).

Why only song lyrics, because there's melody accompanying it? Then it's perhaps more in relation to music than lyrics?

I think I'm pretty skilled at observing things from multiple perspectives (reminds me of universe expanding and not having an end point) but am struggling to single out the right option. It makes me miserable when dealing with decision-making or answering multiple choice questions suggesting one correct answer. I don't perceive things in terms of correct and incorrect, or yes and no, but more in terms of 'maybe' and 'if we assume..then..' I think it might be in relation to high percentage NF function in MBTI.

No clue. My brain is wired this way. I have a terrible memory otherwise.

Seeing things from multiple perspectives doesn't sound entirely useless. There are situations where this would be an asset (e.g. mediation). Can also be a liability if it leads to indecision and lack of action when action is needed.

My memory's very vague too, and I mostly memorize visual picture, words and conversations wear off with time. Smell seems to be the best trigger for extracting them, melody as a trigger nr. 2.

Very true, all 'NF' types (INFJ, INFP, ENFJ, ENFP) belong in a 'Diplomats' category, and INFP (my type) is often referred to as 'Mediator'.

Can also be a liability if it leads to indecision and lack of action when action is needed.

Yes, this would be one of my biggest struggles in art of living. A voice whispering 'wait, but what if..?'

I use sleep as an escape route, when unable to deal with a stress or situation. 'pause life button'

I have some serious problems with it. If I eat, my mind gets foggy, and either I fall asleep wherever I am, or do a siesta. I remember a place, it is a group therapy or sort, in plain day light, so I fell asleep. Of course the "leader" took it personally, and never forgave me.

That’s a talent. I’m jealous - I’m a terrible sleeper. Can you sleep on airplanes?

Just show me the place and I will sleep it. 8)

Not sure if I ever slept on a plane, I did fall asleep before a plane. That is a funny story. It was in a third world country, there was a line up to put baggages in, and I really hate lines, especially when it is very warm outside, so I simply moved up the line and put the baggage in with the others, without being checked. It so happens they figured it out, that there was an extra baggage, so they looked for a bomb for hours, which is when I slept.

I feel everyone has that talent where they remember all the lyrics but don't remember the answers to the test.
Can learn all the lyrics but not the answers of the test

That made me laugh. Your fellow passengers were probably less amused.
