Bill Cosby a narcissist?

Yesterday a jury found Cosby guilty of sexual assault, after deliberating for only a day and a half in his retrial. Whether or not you believe the jury came to the right conclusion, Cosby admits to decades of philandering that routinely involved sedating women prior to having sex with them.

In the media he’s been called a narcissist and a psychopath, among other things. What do you think?

Probably showing my ignorance if popular culture, but I honestly didn’t know who Bill Cosby was until he was being accused. Still not entirely sure.

He could be a narcissist, his career choice might support that. Equally there are plenty of non-disordered sex offenders. Substance abuse is still the number one predictor of the vast majority of violent crimes from child abuse and assault to rape and murder.

This place seems to think he’s an ENFP, which amused me.

Put him in a cage, strip his assets and distribute them to charities dealing with sexual abuse victims.

It took over 15 years to bring Bill Cosby to this trial and get a conviction to stick. The man wielded a lot of power in Hollywood and had the money to silence his victims in or out of court. Dunno if he's a narcissist or not, but his philandering went on for some 30 years plus, an awful long time. It's well known in psychological studies of criminals that a rapist commits the crime not so much for sexual satisfaction but for the adrenaline rush of power over another person. He has admitted to this philandering but cannot see how he has harmed so many victims. He filed so many defamation suits, so yeah, that seems like a narcissistic defense mechanism to deflect any tarnish to his rep. The powerful Cosby (Mr Hyde) vs. his ever humble Cliff Huxtable (Dr Jekyll) image has a lot of ppl shaking their heads.

What gets me is how his wife Camille could not have known his penchant for drugging/assaulting women, or if she did know, enabled it. She not only is his wife and mother of their children but also was her husband's business manager. I wonder now how she feels, with Cosby's career and rep down the tubes and his court conviction.

She can spend all his money now and play the sympathy card for having a monster in her home this entire time.

What the article doesn't cover is that Cosby purported to be that character off-screen, too. In real life he was the keynote speaker at graduations, lecturing young audiences (esp. black audiences) about respect, morality, education, etc. All the while living a very different life. He earned honorary degrees (I personally loathe this practice) from esteemed institutions (Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, Temple University) -- all since revoked.

He created an image that was virtually beyond reproach, which was part of the reason he was able to get away with what he did for so long.

I think that persistent anti social behaviour amongst some narcissists is "bad habits" in the same way that pro social narcissists have our routines.

I would say he is more likely sociopathic. We do have loyalty to supply with NPD - no need to go after a billion women like Bill. If he completely lacked empathy and was willing to break all rules as a sociopath/psychopath, then good riddance to him.
