Empathy Quotient

Postby Röben » Sun Nov 19, 2017 5:17 pm

I was browsing through the SzPD forum yesterday night and saw a post that had a link to an empathy quotient test, and I thought to myself that it’d be interesting to see what you guys got here.

A little bit about the empathy quotient test: this test was made to spot people who might have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The questions test for affective and cognitive empathy.

Heres the test: https://psychology-tools.com/empathy-quotient/

I’d like everyone to take this test no matter if you’re a non or not; I would like to see a variation of scores.

I have taken this test myself and scored 7/80. I didn’t think I’d score so low, but then again I do have ASD and also a lack of affective empathy.
Dx: ASD, OCD

Your Empathy Quotient score was 26 out of a possible 80.

Makes sense. I have an extremely good cognitive empathy but I totally lack the emotional empathy.

Very cool. I've done something similar on a blog.

The Empathy Quotient was originally created by Simon Baron-Cohen as a diagnostic for ASD, it is specifically geared for that purpose ergo why roben hits lower than Middie. Baron-Cohen did try to apply it to cluster B PDs with some success but it really needs to be administered by someone else due to people's tendency to lie or simple lack of self knowledge.

It also doesn't take account of people like myself who reject our own emotional reactions and hence tend to go up and down the scale depending on how dissociated or cranky we are at a given time. Clearly I'm feeling grounded at the moment

Curiously when used correctly EQ finds NPD, BPD, Psychopathy and ASD all hit around the same scores.

Actually if you're looking for reliable self tests the MMPI-2 is pretty good, also the PID-5.

I’ve taken the PID-5 twice and was a bit taken back with my results lol. I haven’t taken the MMPI-2, but now that you’ve mentioned the test, I think I’ll try to take it.

I’m obsessed with psychology and if I can’t dissect other people’s minds, I dissect my own, so I absolutely love taking self-tests (if they’re reliable).
