Narcissist or just super self absorbed?

Postby LifeisWonderful » Tue Apr 18, 2017 5:45 am

Recently I had a run w/a guy I really ended up liking, but he ended up hurting me by lying to me. This really had an affect on my self esteem. Anyway I was just wondering if these are red flags I should watch out for.
-Always was talking about himself, I almost feel like he barely knew anything about me, when I would say something about myself he turned it around and made it about himself.
-On social media there were a lot of selfies and pics of him by himself, almost a not normal amount.
- Almost every person we had an encounter w/ (cashiers, drivers etc), he would tell them that he was in the military. I never tell strangers what I do for work unless they ask.
-When I told him about me having an emotional break down (this was due to his hot/cold behavior), he was totally unconcerned and more worried about how he was feeling, even though he had caused all of it by lying to me.
-He came on extremely strong and started making promises, talking about relationships/marriage etc.
-Not only did he try to cover up his lie w/another (he denied lying to me), he made excuses for that lie instead of owning up to it.
Are these red flags and an indicator of a selfish person?
He did say after he lied that I deserve someone better (in my experience this has been a cop out to easily bail on someone w/out feeling bad).

This is a forum for people with NPD, and being selfish is not equal to having NPD, nor is discussing the possible NPD of a third party a useful subject.
That being said, buy some icecream or something and be happy youre rid of the guy. Lying, egocentric people arent good relationship material.

Most of what you've listed may be a non-issue. I wouldn't consider most of those things, by themselves, particularly red-flagging.

This is a pretty big red flag. Creepy psycho stalker boyfriend territory.

At any rate this forum is for people with NPD, traits of NPD, or suspect they have either or. Probably not going to find much useful relationship advice here.

Hi Lifeiswonderful,

I am going to echo both Jasmer and Akuma's Posts. This is a NPD support forum and is generally not for relationship advice.

We do have nons who come into this forum and ask specific questions relating to the nature of Narcissism. And many forum members here have been very helpful in responding to those questions.

But many posters ask others to basically diagnose someone based on a list of character traits that many people have, something they read on-line, or asking a member here to read someone's mind. This can be very trying for those who have NPD to sort through. I am sure you can understand this.

We have two relationship forums where you can openly ask your questions or pose ideas. They are the Relationship forum and Significant Others, Family and Friends. You may find the support you need there.

Regards

M
