Sorry to bump this thread again. But, I wrote something about humility in a thread about NPD and God, and wanted to mention it here because I thought it tied into this thread: humility is the opposite of hubris.

It's actually kind of interesting in the way it is opposite. Humility comes from the word humus, for ground/earth/decomposition. That "low-ness" contrasts the heights of hubris -- which was a component of the Greek myth of Narcissus. I.e., the direction he should have erred in, but didn't.).
