help for my son

Postby Brokepieces » Tue Apr 26, 2011 3:31 am

My son has been in jail for 18 months charged with Stalking. He is obsessive about a girl he worked with. He was fired for behavior toward her in 2005, then contacted her by my space in 2007, then went to her parents house in 2009. He was found incompetent to stand trial, kept in jail for 4 more months, sent to hospital for 4 weeks were they say competency was restored. He has believed since he was fired that I had something to do with it, he has blamed me for plotting to have him fired to control his behavior. He believes I had this girl set up a camera in his apartment. He also taped the web cam on the lap top. I believe he is suffering from Paranoia and some kind of delusional disorder possibly PTSS. He has become more and more hostile toward me, and refuses to see me, writes me letters accusing me of having him kept in jail and laughing at him, enjoying the pain and suffering he is going through.
I have always loved my son and don't know why he is thinks this way.
I am unable to hire a lawyer for him and his court appointed one is unwilling to help him and basically said he is scared of him. He was in the Navy and involved in 2 wars that have had a effect on him. He never seemed to fit back into life after he came home.
If anyone can help me please

Brokepieces, maybe you could try to contact organizations that look after the rights of people who have served in wars and maybe they have some services to offer too. It sounds like he needs help, medication and therapy maybe. Could you talk to the doctors who treated him when he was in the hospital and see if you can actually find one willing to help you? Please feel free to post about this in more forums.

maybe if his psychological condition is properly documented by a doctor(s) he can use it to go on disability and receive income this way. That might help ease the burdens of any bills of his that you or him may be paying.

Also the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a law you may want to become familiar with. It is a federal law (which has been implemented in some for or another by most states) which requires that employers (even schools potentially) provide certain reasonable accommodations to disabled employees. When your son leaves jail he may need to avail himself of certain reasonable accommodations if his major life activities are affected by the psychologiucal disability you speak of.
