Heya,

Is he diagnosed with this? There is a bipolar forum on this website, but if you want to just talk here then i'm okay with that.

I am not sure, I believe that is his diagnosis; he is presribed seroquel and lamotrigine. Which he has stopped taking and is refusing to take, because he says it clouds his mind. He is now all religious and I know that he is hearing voices. Last night I did leave after he busted some furniture, I was trying to tell him again that he needs to take his meds, but I came back. I'm not sure what to do. I have called his Doctor and all they suggest is to have him committed, which I probably will have to do. There is no reasoning with him, I have tried time and again to tell him in different ways he needs to be taking it. I called his Dad who lives 3 hours away, and he tried to talk to him about taking it and all that happened was that my husband ended up not going into work and was yelling at his dad and calling him a mind controlling Nazi. I feel like I'm losing my sanity living with him, like this. I know there is no easy solution, I guess I just need to vent.

Hi,

Regrettably, what the doctor said might be the best thing to do here (i.e. have him 'committed'). You know, I spent time in a psych. hospital but I can tell you that they are not bad places. They are more like hotels than anything else. The thign about medication too is that he has to want to take it in order for it to work. If it's 'forced' into him, what good will it do? Most medications aren't powerful enough to help people on their own - The person has to work with the medication for it to work properly.

Dialectic Behaviour Therapy...

It's basically meditation, awareness, peception, and mindfulness...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialectical_behavior_therapy

It helped my wife... she was a tyrant. She now practices yoga, meditation, runs, and actively cares about herself and her children's well-being. She will attest it is a far better quality of life.

It's not an easy road. It's took us a good part of 4 years. But she is med free, and has not harmed her kids in over a year, or herself. And actually is stable. Wish I could say the same. There are options... there are med free choices, but they are a lot of work.

Keep in mind, you're likely to be the caregiver for a good part of this, if not the entire remainder of your relationship with your husband. Bi-Polar and those spectrum disorders can be devestating to deal with.

He still has a choice here...

There is hope.
just me... trying to be... something more than I was yesterday. be well everyone.
