I'm a new member, I just registered here.

I have suffered from mental illness and abuse issues for my entire life. I am now 40 years old. I have gotten to a point where I need to be able to talk about some of this stuff to someone other than my husband...the poor soul.

I do not have a therapist...I can't afford one, and I don't like them...so I just sit here day after day going over all of this crap in my own mind. I'm driving myself crazy.

It would be nice to have other people relate to what I am thinking and feeling.

I'm sure you will see me around. :)

Hello and welcome. :D Hopefully having some people to talk to here will help you. I'm sure there are other people who will be able to relate to what your are going through. I have had abuse issues too, I'm sorry you have been through some of that stuff too... Like you, I also go over and over stuff in my mind and so I find it helpful to have people to talk to here so I feel positive that you will find it helpful to talk here too.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.

Hello and welcome to the forum. :D I hope you find it supportive and helpful here. I think it is normal to feel a bit nervous before going to see a new therapist, I'm sure you will go ok with it. Perhaps if you are a bit worried about it you can write some notes in preparation to take with you to the appointment explaining what has been going on for you with your mental health, this might make it a bit easier to know where to start the conversation when you get there...
I like oreos too. :D I don't know what a pomegranate is but it sounds yummy. Have you ever tried fresh figs? They are pretty awesome too I think...

Shucks, thanks for the welcome! And that's good advice with the list idea because I always end up telling the therapist I don't have any problems and to take me off the meds when I have nothing to tell them. I'll get started on a little list. And by the way, pomegranates are very odd fruits in that you can only really eat the seeds, but really you can't even eat that! Only the fleshy part around the seeds! It's madness! They are such a pretty colour though, very much indeed. nevertheless if you ever chance upon some pomegranates, dried is the way to go! :)

All the best with writing your list to talk to your therapist about... It is very helpful when you draw a blank about what to tell the therapist and you can refer to your list. Maybe you should add to your list, "not remembering what I wanted to talk about without writing a list". I know that last bit was kind of a joke but I was also being quite serious, if you are having trouble remembering what you wanted to talk about that is potentially a symptom, potentially an extremely important symptom. For me personally, memory loss is one of my most prominent symptoms but maybe my therapist wouldn't have picked up on it if I hadn't handed him a letter I had written for him in the first session that started out with the words "I wrote you this because I wasn't sure I'd remember what I wanted to say without writing it all down"... All the best with it...

Enjoy your time here! It's a vast site and whether you dip your toes in and post or just lurk, there's a lot of useful information.

Hehehe! Oh heavens, that's quite a laugh, but very awesome! I wanted to do this in the past, and have actually written some letters but never gave them to anyone. But now that you did it, I think I might write another one and have a go at this! Jolly good jolly good friend! I have three hours before therapy, and way too nervous! ~Take care ~~

Ooooo that's soon! I remember pre-therapy jitters :D , I hope you feel calmer when you get there. I want an update once you've been to the appointment- how it was, whether you went with the notes or the letter, whether the therapist was nice... I feel kinda excited for you! I hope it goes well!

Re: Welcome New Members

Hello. I just registered today. Uhh...how do I say this? I'm not really sure what I have. Depression, certainly; I think I had PTSD when I was 15, and maybe depersonalisation disorder? I don't know. I don't really want to overanalyse things and confuse myself. The only thing I'm certain is that the things I'm feeling can't be entirely normal.

Well, I guess this means one of my reasons for joining is finding out. Also, I'd like to be around people who understand. Not that my friends aren't great at listening, but they keep expecting me to be 100% ok; bright and happy now. Either that, or they think (like my parents) that I'm not trying hard enough to "snap out of it"; like I can will everything away if I exercise frequently and motivate myself. Maybe I can; maybe I'm being lazy; but it gets tiring sometimes when I have to struggle with this myself.

I also hope that coming here will help in some way. I can't afford a therapist or even counselling sessions; but this HAS to get better somehow. It's seriously starting to affect my life.

Uhhh....think I said too much already. Sorry? n_nU

In the meantime, nice to meet you all. :)
