Miss Dandy here in all her grandiosity.

Postby Dandyindeed » Fri Dec 29, 2017 9:25 pm

Hello folks: I'm interested in working 12 step programs and taking that fourth step as far back and deep as I can go. I'm on board with the magnet theory, per se, and with repetition compulsion. I'm typically hypermaniac and attract to me codependent friends . I'm fascinated by how codependents/dependents mirror each other and are two sides of the same proverbial coin.

Currently living with a codepen man w/ clinical depression and I struggle to relate to such negativity on such a permanent basis.

Does anyone hear me?

Don't try to do a perfect 4th step the first time through. I did and got stuck simply because perfection is impossible to attain.
Besides, a 'moral inventory' is constantly and progressively changing as we change ourselves and others change around us.
Fears and resentments may have more or less power over us as time goes on. What was important to us yesterday, may not be so important to us today.
I referred to the big book of AA for a template on how to do this step. This was before the internet which has lots of information on how to do a 4th step nowadays.
A 4th step can be scary as looking inside ourselves and our pasts (like a bad neighborhood) can be. This is why we don't do steps alone and it is shared with a trusted sponsor or spiritual advisor:

Sometimes the dependent/co-dependent dynamic is strong and can be irreversible. Like symbiosis, if you get well, but they don't, it can drag the dynamics back to where they were and you both will remain sick.
I had to move out of the house in order to change my old reflexes and move toward a healthy recovery. It is one day at a time.
Best of luck to you. :D

Then you know. I have done some steps over, not that they were done wrong or were incomplete, but because the information (and myself) had changed.
A brief daily 1st step keeps my thinking on the correct path as I trudge the road to happy destiny. :D
