Introduction

Postby Bianco » Mon Dec 22, 2014 8:02 pm

Hi everyone. I'm a 18 year old girl who's been suffering from anxiety ever since she was a child, but that's not the reason why I'm here. I'm currently going through a phase of general, intense hopelessness about the future; a condition that has now lasted for a year.
I'll be glad to explain my "problem" more clearly in future posts. Bye.

Hi - 18 is a difficult time for anyone even before any historic anxiety.

the last thing you want to hear is someone my age telling you that it will be ok - so i will let others more your age answer your post with more detail - but if could give you any hope, i would urge you to believe in yourself and what you can achieve.

Hi Sevren, thank you for your reply. Actually, I'm constantly looking for people older than me, especially if they've gone through what I am going through right now, who are willing to tell me that everything is going to be okay, even though my restored hope always vanishes in a few minutes, fearing that their advice do not apply to me. As a matter of fact, I appreciated your words, thank you.
Probably this is something that every young adult experiences at some point in their life, but suffering from some sort of mental illness makes it even more difficult to deal with this kind of thoughts.
By the way, I'm trying to figure out what section is more suitable for posting my problem, so that I can create a real topic and get more replies.

Hi Bianco. You could look in hope/ , living-with-mental-illness/ [our "general" area] or depression/ perhaps? We don't have a single place where that feeling is discussed. But it comes up for people often.

Posting to other people's threads is a good way to get conversations going. And to get to know people a little better. We tend to have more people wanting to get help than to give it. So closing that loop both means people are more likely to respond to you in turn. And also identifying where you relate and differ to others. With a similar issue. Can spark fresh insight about what's going on. :D
We think too much and feel too little.

More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.

Hi Ada, thank you for your helpful insights. I've been following this forum as a guest for months but I usually focus on threads related to sexual and personality disorders, not a good place to post my problem in this case. I've figured that posting a thread in the cognitive section can be a good idea, but, as you suggested, I think I could find people who can relate to my experiences in the anxiety or depression section as well.
I've considered posting a reply to an already existing thread, but, as you pointed out, many people fear they wouldn't get enough attention and I'm no exception. Maybe I'll give it a second thought.
