confused newbie

Postby SammyKijak » Sun Apr 06, 2014 7:42 pm

i'm new here and joined for multiple reasons, but started in the sex addiction forum

i feel nervous because i see views but no replies, and my follow-up post isn't up yet.

so about the not-being-up: how long does it take for things to get posted? i'm used to instant posts... i'm used to post, oh a reply already? read, post, reply to that post so read, post... but this site is like "post, wait what feels like 80 years for the post to come up, die of anxiety when there's no response, make a new post, and it's been like 400 years already x.X i love to exaggerate but you get the point

no-replies: it may have been my language? i just wanted to express how i felt, so i didn't censor myself, but i did put a trigger warning.

Morning S,

I am also new, also started on the same thread. Seemed like it took anywhere from 2 hours to 24 hours to post my new topics to the forum, less for commentary. PM's do not get sent immediately either. Expect to wait perhaps hours or days for a PM to post.

Otherwise, I am finding PF to be incredibly helpful and a wealth of exactly the kind of knowledge I was looking for. The delay (IMO) is caused by the Moderators who must review whats posted (and that is a no paying, kindness of their hearts envdeavor.

All the Best and Have a Great Day,
OJ

Every post here will have many more views than responses. Because we are open to guests reading. Bots also count as views. And often people will read to see if they can reply. But don't have anything to add. Or they make a note to come back later once they've had a think about it. [I do that. :D]

As Opus said. The first few posts can take a while to go through. It depends on what mods are around. And whether they are busy with other things or have a chance to look through the new posts list. Sometimes they're dealing with a tonne of spam so legit posts are left while a wave of spammers get banned. And sometimes there's a query about a username or contents of the post or location. So the post may not go through while that's resolved. It's never personal and we always get there in the end!

For getting replies. It does help to post to other people's threads, too. Some forums are very high in short term visitors. Who post once or twice. And then disappear. So it can be quite hard to get replies and discussions going there. As a frequent poster myself. It can be quite discouraging when people don't even acknowledge whatever I replied. The secret [such as it is.] Is to post to other people's threads too. That's partly "being the change you wish to see in the world." ;) And partly because people are more likely to be curious about your reason for being in the forum. If you show an interest in them.

About PMs. Those are always sent immediately. But they sit in the Outbox until they get read by the recipient. I have plenty there right now. Going back to October 2012. Since people never logged in again to read them.

I don't like to do that! People do come back after years away, sometimes. And maybe it would be nice to log in and find a message.

[Mostly my messages aren't that exciting. :| Oh well. ]

I think you are very charming lady, that has a goofy yet endearing sense of humor.
