Blogging, Posting and Privacy?

Postby jessee79 » Thu Sep 13, 2012 12:43 pm

Hello,

Hope someone can help.

I'm worried that my posts and especially blogs are available on the internet - i.e. to non members and anyone who is browsing.

Can I change the settings so only members see them? I tried doing this but it didn't seem available as an option.

Thanks,

J x

Hi J, no there's not an option for that kind of privacy. Everything written here is indexed in Google and is available for anyone to read. Since anyone can make an account here, restricting viewability wouldn't help keep any secrets.

Mods try to edit personal details out of posts [if people write for example, their real name or location] but that's all. In general here we have privacy because we have anonymity. There's no way to link our real names to our forum names, unless we've posted something very detailed and explicit. Mostly what's posted here could be happening to anyone, there's no way to know about others in real life. That's what I like about it. That it's possible to learn from other people's views, that other people have gone through the same experiences and understand how things are.

If there's something in particular that you're worried about in one of your posts or blog posts, let a mod/admin know. There's more explanation of this in Section 7 of the Forum Rules.
We think too much and feel too little.
More than machinery, we need humanity.
More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.

Thanks Ada,

I'm being a bit paranoid  , but my private life is so very private out in the real world, and the thought of sharing more and more makes me scared someone will know its me.
