I just thought of something this site needs...

I'm a member of a fair number of forums and the ones I like the best all have IRC channels where the members can hang out and chat. Its cool because you can you get to know everyone better and talk about things in real time. I would be happen to help out in getting it started, seeing as I am familiar with the IRC networks, but its really up to the Admins on whether we do that. We'll also need chat mods if the motion is accepted.

That would actually be kind of cool. Or scary depending on who you talk to...

Yeah.. that crossed my mind too... but thats what the mods will be for... keep things civil.

It might be more fun without mods.

Besides, they can't be around all the time to keep things orderly.

You'd be surprised how omnipresent they can be...

I go to an active forum has an irc channel that is always pretty active. There are, I believe, 7 mods in total for the irc channel. There is always at least one on at any given time, and usually there are two or three but you only see one or two talk very often. And that includes the site admin as well, he's connected much of the time.

But trust me... you don't want an un-modded channel... not only can the chat turn into a total flame war, but you also have to worry about security exploits as well.
