Email on Account

Postby aho0993x » Tue Sep 06, 2022 6:38 pm

Hi there. A few years ago I made an account with a few posts. I do not remember the password or the email I used to create the account. Is there a way to validate which email I used to create it? Would be helpful if I can DM an admin to discuss circumstance further.

Hello and welcome!

You'll find you can't yet use the PM system.

As for an old account, we'd need corroborating evidence such as email address, which you lack. In which case you'll just need to start over.

Appreciate the response. What's the criteria for unlocking PMs?

Otherwise, my main reasoning for determining the email I used to register is not to log in, but because I wanted to validate if it's linked to a personal email.

This is per one of the suggestions in the Forum Rules: "In accordance with this policy, all new member registrations require a valid separate email address (dedicated only to psychforums.com communications and protected with a different password than your other mail accounts) which can be verified or confirmed."

Is there/would there be a way to confirm that?

PMs are temporarily disabled as an anti-spam measure.

I'm afraid without evidence you are the owner of an account, we wouldn't be able to do anything with it. I wouldn't worry about the email address at this point, it is not as if you are posting from another account. Just that it is good to use an email (and user name) that is unique to PF.

Okay, I appreciate the candor.

In that case, I did want to confirm a few things. I don't mean to be difficult. I just want to be thorough in making sure there is no potential breach for my privacy, so I appreciate your help.

I see in the User Control Panel there's options for "Users can contact me by e-mail" and "Administrators can e-mail me information." Given your rules on anonymity, I would assume emailing users is not possible, regardless what the settings are. Is this correct?

Would guessing parts of the email be evidence of ownership?

If not, would you be able to confirm if the email is active/emails bounce when attempting to send to that address?

No ordinary member can see your email address, you are safe from that.

You can't as yet respond but look for an explanatory PM for more information.
