I agree, it would be a mess. Also this forum does have lot of important information and it would be a big loss without it.

This is probably why people leave too. You really can't talk about anything around here without endless mod edits - nor allowed to criticize any decisions.

Well, mod edits only usually happen because someone has somehow broken the rules...

Hi,

I'm new here (just joined today).

I'm on social media, but would never post in a psych group or page about mental health on social media (esp FB, etc) because of privacy issues, and people on social media treat each other horribly. I specifically looked for a message board *off* social media for this reason.

I searched for forums on Duck Duck Go and you were one of the top hits, and I was able to browse a bit and see that it was active enough and moderated enough. In other words, a "safe enough" place, with many boards and active people.

There are other forums I used to be a part of years ago that transitioned elsewhere, got absorbed by big sites that disabled the community forums (bad move), or had teams or moderators that were unresponsive to message boards or requests for support.

This site doesn't seem to fit any of those situations. No site is without its problems, but I've admin'd groups, pages, and message boards before, and this one seems in decent shape to me.

I come here with a number of issues (and struggling mightily at the moment) myself, but I think you have a good place, and people who care. That's half the battle.

just my opinion.

Don't give up.

Very true. PsychForums is the only mental health support forum that sticks to the rules. I have been a part of so many other "online support groups" that are not supportive at all. I am shocked how many online support groups are littered with people bashing and attacking one another. What a sad disgusting shame. There is enough negativity in the real world, so it is nice to be a part of this place where members are very positive.

There is a lot of support on PsychForums, and the moderators do a great job in keeping it safe. The members here do care about giving support, and they do a good job of doing so.

Keep up the good work, everyone.

When I first came here forum post topics showed up on Google search results that's how I found it, I noticed my own topics showing up in search results often front page.

Its not like that anymore with the new censorship algorithms that favor mainstream news and in the case of mental health stuff mainstream sites like Web MD , health-line and dozens of dozens of others from the Establishment.

As old members post less or move on new people are not finding this site and replacing them.

Plenty of people find it then leave - because it has died. no one wants to hang around a rotting corpse! Plenty of people in the new members section that are 1 and done.

If you don't agree with what someone else says you get labelled a troll. Every snowflake out there goes around accusing people of trolling.

You are one of the most interesting people on here ...

So how are you being treated like a troll?

Part of the problem I had was with one section in particular (The NPD section). There were two former members who were purposely attacking other members. They made it clear that they would not allow people with NPD to get any support on PsychForums. This went on for months, until the moderators finally kicked these two members off.

My understanding is that PscyhForums is a mental health support site. We don't have to agree with one another, but to purposely belittle and degrade other members is against forum rules.

We have enough hatred in the world, and we don't need more hatred on PsychForums.

I knew a place where toxic posters where given a free pass in the name of "free speech", and where moderators or the admin turned a blind eye to what were to me obvious trolls. Too often, places that started as lively and pleasant eventually become a shadow of their former selves or die. We should beware not to allow the pretext of "free speech" to serve as a weapon for saboteurs and harassers bent on discouraging free speech and association.

If a member starts calling other members derogatory names, they are acting like a troll. That is why they get banned. There are other websites that allow members to belittle one another, but not PsychForums.

Don't forget trolls do it for no reason other than to upset the victim.
