Memory blocking

Among trying to figure out my other issues I found that I tend to not remember things and I am wondering if it is intensional or a defense mechanism. I can pick out a movie and forget the name of it while watching it. My neighbor asked me if i had watched any movies lately when in fact I had watched a bunch but could not remember the name of them. Is it that it is easier for me not to remember rather than say something ignorant or wrong? I tend to do that anyway.
