A draft of a Private Message just disappeared

Postby Unusual » Thu Apr 05, 2018 11:14 am

Hello, I spent about an hour typing a message to someone. I decided to first save it as a Draft . When I clicked on Save Draft I was taken to the sign in page. I signed in and then clicked to enter the site again and it took me to my messages page but the letter I had been typing was nowhere to be seen.
It's not in the Private Messages Saved Drafts section either.

Do any of the Admins know how to retrieve it if possible ?

Thanks,
Unusual

Unfortunately, your draft is lost. What happens is that you have an allotted time to be on the forum (don't know how long), but then it automatically logs you out and unless you've copied it or saved it there in the drafts section, it can be lost for good. What I do is save it often in the draft you are typing out, so you know for a fact it is saved and you just continue where you left off each time. I'm very sorry this has happened to you.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Because of this problem and that there is such a large group of people uisng it I would have thought the person running this PHPBB Board should look into the Admin Control Panel and see if the settings could be altered for us. So that we don't get auto logged out.

I'm not sure which version of PHPBB this is. ? I've just been trying to research the answer without knowing the version but just doing a general search in google for PHPBB.
It isn't really any good for people using this function for the first time like myself when after an hour of typing and editing my message I get kicked offline without knowing it would happen. I can never recreate that message due to memory problems I have.

Either the owners of the Board should look into the Admins available settings to change the auto logout time or upgrade to a different type of Forum Board that has this setting. Because this is really quite bad.

I will pass on your thoughts to other Moderators so that all are aware of this.

I know that I have lost a couple of posts in the past. Sometimes one puts a lot of thought into typing it and servers can time-out.
I now 'copy' a completed page before clicking any further steps. Than way I can always 'paste' it back up if needed, so nothing is lost.
It happened a few times on my old Apple. I haven't noticed it happening on the newer one, but this thing isn't without bugs and glitches either.

Hi Wally, thanks for that advice. One of the people running the forum has been in touch with me to let me know that the next major update for the site will include an Autosave facility for messaging.

David.
