How Do I Know if My Posts Are *REALLY* Under Review?

Postby Truly_happy » Tue Aug 30, 2016 9:53 pm

Hello,

I am a new member and I seem to be under newcomer probation. Everything I submit
goes under review ... or does it?

My problem is that I seem to have no way of knowing if my content is really in the moderator's queue. See, as a new member I forget to tell the website not to log me out when I'm in the middle of something. Thus, I get told that I need to log in, but not that my post is under review!

Is there a way, besides bugging a moderator, to know what of mine is under review?

Thanks in advance for your response.

:D (sorry)

ALL new posts are in moderation queue. Every single one of them. This is to lower the amount of spam (you can't really avoid 100% of it, but we're aiming for 99%). Generally spambots try to "post" two or three messages along the lines of "this thread is very helpful" (no matter what the thread is, of course) before giving us the latest on Vi4GrA and fRe€ n1k€ $h0eS. So we're trying to intercept those before they get to spam the entire Psychforums.

So don't worry – you might have to wait a bit until someone gets to your post (we're all volunteers and we don't work here, so we check when we can) but once the first few are approved you're out in the wild and no longer in the queue.

I have a more specific question related to the OP's question.

I too am new and know that my first posts will be vetted before displaying them. This is a sound rule and I have no problem with it.

However, there is no indication of my post actually being in the system. When I click on the 'View your posts' link in the upper left of the page, there are no results even though I posted twice. Does that mean that my posting somehow got lost? Should it indicate that I have posts pending but not yet displayed or is this normal?

I am asking because if my posts got lost somehow, I want to post again as I am kind of anxious to see my post displayed and replies to it by other members. I am pretty sure when people first post here, most of them are anxious to get a conversation going. ;)

But I don't want to flood the system with duplicate posts if my original posts are in the system already. That would unnecessarily add to the volunteer moderators' workload who are already kind enough to give their time to this, and I understand it could also get me in trouble.

Please, let me know ASAP whether I can trust that my posts are in the system, waiting to be approved. I also would like to suggest the improvement of the 'View your posts' feature so that even posts awaiting moderation are shown to the user, to help them confirm whether they need to post again.

Thanks in advance!

See, I actually don't know that. I started here in 2012 and I can't remember how it works. I will ask the technical admins about it.

Generally 99% of the posts you make are in the system as long as you get the "the message was submitted" screen. Very rarely there is a glitch and the post gets stuck – I click on "Approve" and it says "the post cannot be found", and then we contact the person and ask them to repost it. If in doubt just post twice, we'll disapprove the duplicate and approve the other one.

Thank you so much for getting back to me!

It is nice to know that the above is accepted, but I will wait a little more before doing that. The reason to that is that my post above that you replied to also wasn't showing until it got approved, so probably this behavior of the site is normal, and there are pretty good chances my other posts will appear soon unless the content has issues (doubt it, but I AM new and might have made a mistake - I expect my first post to be denied because it was pretty long and I did mention I would post a second time to finish the story).

My other posts (I believe I have posted four times now in three separate topics) have not appeared yet, and two of them are a few hours older than the one above. I did post in a topic that doesn't have a moderator assigned, and that probably means that there is more infrequent moderator activity there, so it is likely normal that it takes longer for those to get approved. ;)

Thanks a bunch! Keep up the good work!
