Postby Sylice613 » Fri Jun 06, 2014 10:50 am

Im just wondering because keep telling me not to pursue a Psychology degree but a STEM degree instead, because there are no jobs in Psychology.

Median pay is $30/hour, projected growth is 12% (which is average...) It isn't worthless if that's what you want to do with your life...

The below is coming from my very limited perspective so it may not be accurate at all, its just what i think about it:

I really do not think a psychology degree is worthless at all, i mean there are lots and lots of people out there that need help or someone to talk to and with the ever increasing social and society pressures that number is set to go up.

In fact really good psychologists are needed.

i am trying to save up for a science degree for in future but i am also thinking of psychology and/or psychiatry degree because the mind fascinates me and id love to explore its processes and wonders.

i would say, if you really want to, and you like psychology, then go for it, it might be hard but if you like it you will really enjoy it, and the least you will come out with is a degree which any employer in that field will take very seriously.

hope this helps
If you don't want people to know about it, don't put it out there.

Think before you post.

I think you have to specialize in something. In Canada, I believe an Arts degree with a Psychology major is not going to get you a job. It's only a stepping stone to the next degree. This is my honest opinion.

I may be a rare case, but if I had to do my life over again, I would not put nearly as much money, time and effort into education. Find a field you like that pays fairly well and go for it.
Ph D's, even Masters' degrees are overrated in my opinion. This is my own experience. I know too many people my age (late 50's) who got one and really regretted it. Some even died a couple of years later due to stress-induced illness.

If you want to be a Dr of course you have to invest many years in your career, but for the average person, count the cost. Is it really worth it? And never put career ahead of relationships. No one on their deathbed says I wish I had earned another degree.

Nothing is worthless if you enjoy it. You can get value from it if you work hard
