Incognito mode + long post + submit = despair

Postby Kuno » Thu Apr 25, 2013 8:43 pm

I had just logged in and spent 1 hour writing a post on my serious worries... I didn't suspect anything could wrong, but when I submitted it, I was prompted to log in! Instead I pressed backspace to get back to the post, but it wasn't there. So I pressed forward and then logged in, but no post. It was gone:O If I press back again, chrome says it must resend the data, but it doesn't seem to actually be stored any data... I noticed there's a "save draft" option now... but is that also for when you're logged off? I hope tragedies like this can be prevented in the future...

Hey Kuno, so sorry that happened! It has probably happened to most of us at one time or another, if you have been here a while and posted a lot. And it is really annoying! Basically, you got timed out. I want to say the timeout is 1/2 hour maybe less ? Basically, for long posts, it's just safer to write it in a text editor or word processor and paste it into the box - OR- at least copy/paste it into memory before you submit. You can use "save draft". I used it during the writing of this post, to test it, as I don't usually use it. You do have to be logged in to use it. I think I prefer my other ways tho, personally.

Take care,
Jan
